A new and presumably now extinct species of Millepora (Hydrozoa) in the eastern Pacific Naturalis
Weerdt, W.H. de; Glynn, P.W..
A new species of hydrocoral, Millepora boschmai, is described from the Gulf of Chiriqui, Pacific Panamá. This species was first found in the early 1970's, but it has disappeared from this area as a result of the severe 1982-83 El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) event. Because the species has never been encountered outside the Gulf of Chiriquí, it is assumed that it was endemic to this area and that its disappearance marks an extinction event, representing the first documented case of a modern extinction of a tropical marine organism due to natural causes.

Lectotype designations of new species of hydroids (Cnidaria, Hydrozoa), described by C.M. Fraser, from Allan Hancock Pacific and Caribbean Sea Expeditions Naturalis
Calder, D.R.; Vervoort, W.; Hochberg, F.G..
Hydroids of the Allan Hancock Pacific Expeditions, and those of the Allan Hancock Caribbean Sea Expedition, were examined by Charles McLean Fraser in a series of reports published between 1938 and 1948. A total of 159 new nominal species was described from material collected in the eastern Pacific between Peru and southern British Columbia. Accounts of an additional five nominal species were based on specimens from the southern Caribbean Sea. No valid holotypes were designated in accordance with provisions of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature for any of these taxa. The purpose of this report is to establish an objective standard for each species, and to promote stability of nomenclature in Hydrozoa, by designating lectotypes for these taxa,...

Description of two new associated infaunal decapod crustaceans (Axianassidae and Alpheidae) from the tropical eastern Pacific Pap. Avulsos de Zool. (São Paulo)
Anker,Arthur; Lazarus,Juan Felipe.
Two new species of infaunal decapod crustaceans are described based on material collected in Bahía Málaga, Pacific coast of Colombia, in 2009. The mud-shrimp Axianassa darrylfelderi sp. nov. (Axianassidae) appears to be most closely related to A. australis Rodrigues & Shimizu, 1992, A. canalis Kensley & Heard, 1990, and A. jamaicensis Kensley & Heard, 1990. The new species may be distinguished from each of them by a combination of morphological features, mainly on the uropodal exopod, antennal acicle, third maxilliped and first pleonite. The shrimp Leptalpheus canterakintzi sp. nov. (Alpheidae), associated with burrows of A. darrylfelderi sp. nov., undoubtedly represents the eastern Pacific sister species of the western Atlantic L. axianassae...
