Optimization of spray deposition and Tetranychus urticae control with air assisted and electrostatic sprayer Scientia Agricola

ABSTRACT: Improved spray deposition can be attained by electrostatically charging spray droplets, which increases the attraction of droplets to plants and decreases operator exposure to pesticide and losses to the environment. However, this technique alone is not sufficient to achieve desirable penetration of the spray solution into the crop canopy; thus, air assistance can be added to the electrostatic spraying to further improve spray deposition. Studies on Effect of Electrostatic Spraying in Orchards CIGR Journal

Evaluation of an electrostatic sprayer (Make ESS, USA) was conducted on a pear orchard planted at 2.5 m row spacing and distance between plant to plant was 1.5 m. The water sensitive paper stripes were placed on each test plant at the upper and underside of the leaves at the different heights of the plant. Effect of charging on droplet density, area covered by droplets, volume of spray deposition, uniformity coefficient and droplet size were observed during the evaluation of the electrostatic sprayer and comparison was made between two different types of nozzle i.e. twin and single nozzle. ABSTRACT: Despite all advances obtained with the pesticide use worldwide and in Brazilian agriculture, there is still a lack of technologies for agricultural aircrafts. The objective of this study was to evaluate the drift produced by the use of conical nozzles and electrostatic system in aircraft application. The experimental design was completely randomized with a factorial arrangement and four replications. Treatments included two spraying equipment: electrostatic system with 5L ha-1 of spray volume and conical nozzle with 15 and 20L ha-1.
