To help integrated natural resource management (INRM) research "deliver the goods" for many of the world's poor over a large area and in a timely manner, the authors suggest a problem-solving approach that facilitates the scaling out of relevant agricultural practices. They propose seven ways to foster scaling out: (1) develop more attractive practices and technologies through participatory research (2) balance supply-driven approaches with resource user demands, (3) use feedback to redefine the research agenda, (4) encourage support groups and networks for information sharing, (5) facilitate negotiation among stakeholders, (6) inform policy change and institutional development, and (7) make sensible use of information management tools, including models... |

ABSTRACT: The Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), since 2004, has been stimulating its Decentralized Units to implement the internal process of environmental management. In Embrapa Cerrados this process is in course since 2006, with approval of the Project Environmental Management in Embrapa Cerrados: A Proposition to Implementation of Corporative Processes in the Unit. According with the scope of the action plan in environmental education, the aim of this guide is to integrate and to institutionalize the main terms and acronyms used in the execution and in the development of the project, elucidating and providing information for all employee and collaborator, seeking more participation and involvement in the process of environmental... |

Regional and seasonal variability of the Si dissolution: production ratios in the surface ocean have not been well assessed. Here, we propose a new method for determining these rates, using the Si-30-isotopic dilution technique with a high-resolution sector field inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (HR-SF-ICP-MS). Relative analytical precision of the isotopic measurement is better than 1%, similar to that obtained by thermal ionization-quadrupole mass spectrometry (TIMS). Accuracy and reproducibility of the isotopic measurements have been checked on artificial and natural solutions by intercomparison between two HR-SF-ICP-MS instruments and one TIMS. Measurements of real Si production and dissolution rates are illustrated for two contrasted... |

While industrial growth is mainly a function of market forces, governments actively pursue policies and activities to accelerate industrialization. These policies, directly or indirectly, affect the natural environment. Sound industrial and environmental policies are not incompatible, even though it is difficult task either to set and enforce at the same time environmental standard that do not have some negative impact on industrial development options, or to formulate industrial policies that take environmental issues fully into account. The objective of this study is to elaborate a national assessment for the purpose of the industrial environment overview in the process of sustainable development in Côte d’Ivoire which is a part of the systematic... |
