The effect of melatonin and/or complex vitamin B1,B6,B12 in modulating epinephrine-induced stress in male rats BABT
EL-Toweissy,Mona Yossef; Mohamed,Nema Abdel-Hameed; Abdel-Wahab,Wessam Mohamed.
This study was undertaken to determine the modulating effects of intramuscular administration of melatonin (MT)(1mg/ kg) and/or Tri-B (B 1 , B 6 and B 12 ) (20mg/kg) on body weight and some biochemical changes in rats induced by Epinephrine (Epi) injection. The data showed that MT and/or Tri-B treatment effectively improved the changes in malondialdehyde, lipid profile, blood sugar level and insulin. MT and/or Tri-B administration following Epi improved partially the decrease in body weight and liver glycogen levels. Tri B injection following Epi partialy improved all the tested parameters except malondialdehyde and blood sugar level that completely improved in stressed rats. It was evident that a combination of MT and vitamin B complex had protective...

Changes in the TBARs content and superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase activities in the lymphoid organs and skeletal muscles of adrenodemedullated rats BJMBR
Pereira,B.; Costa-Rosa,L.F.B.P.; Bechara,E.J.H.; Newsholme,P.; Curi,R..
Thiobarbituric acid reactant substances (TBARs) content, and the activities of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDh), citrate synthase (CS), Cu/Zn- and Mn-superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase, and glutathione peroxidase (GPX) were measured in the lymphoid organs (thymus, spleen, and mesenteric lymph nodes (MLN)) and skeletal muscles (gastrocnemius and soleus) of adrenodemedullated (ADM) rats. The results were compared with those obtained for sham-operated rats. TBARs content was reduced by adrenodemedullation in the lymphoid organs (MLN (28%), thymus (40%) and spleen (42%)) and gastrocnemius muscle (67%). G6PDh activity was enhanced in the MLN (69%) and reduced in the spleen (28%) and soleus muscle (75%). CS activity was reduced in all tissues (MLN...

The inhibitory role of sympathetic nervous system in the Ca2+-dependent proteolysis of skeletal muscle BJMBR
Navegantes,L.C.C.; Baviera,A.M.; Kettelhut,I.C..
Mammalian cells contain several proteolytic systems to carry out the degradative processes and complex regulatory mechanisms to prevent excessive protein breakdown. Among these systems, the Ca2+-activated proteolytic system involves the cysteine proteases denoted calpains, and their inhibitor, calpastatin. Despite the rapid progress in molecular research on calpains and calpastatin, the physiological role and regulatory mechanisms of these proteins remain obscure. Interest in the adrenergic effect on Ca2+-dependent proteolysis has been stimulated by the finding that the administration of β2-agonists induces muscle hypertrophy and prevents the loss of muscle mass in a variety of pathologic conditions in which calpains are activated. This review summarizes...

Catecholamine response to exercise in individuals with different levels of paraplegia BJMBR
Steinberg,L.L.; Lauro,F.A.A.; Sposito,M.M.M.; Tufik,S.; Mello,M.T.; Naffah-Mazzacoratti,M.G.; Cavalheiro,E.A.; Silva,A.C..
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the level of injury on the serum level of norepinephrine (Nor) and epinephrine (Epi) at rest and after maximal exercise in individuals with paraplegia. Twenty-six male spinal cord-injured subjects with complete paraplegia for at least 9 months were divided into two groups of 13 subjects each according to the level of injury, i.e., T1-T6 and T7-T12. Serum Nor and Epi concentrations were measured by HPLC-ECD, at rest (PRE) and immediately after a maximal ergospirometric test (POST). Statistical analysis was performed using parametric and non-parametric tests. Maximal heart rate, peak oxygen uptake, and PRE and POST Nor were lower in the T1-T6 than in the T7-T12 group (166 ± 28 vs 188 ± 10 bpm; 18.0 ±...

Inducers and autoinducers on Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium motility, growth and gene expression Ciência Rural
Conceição,Rita de Cássia dos Santos da; Sturbelle,Régis Tuchtenhagen; Timm,Cláudio Dias; Leite,Fábio Pereira Leivas.
Genus Salmonella bacteria are among the major pathogenic microorganisms in food. This bacterium pathogenicity is related to a number of virulence factors, among which its flagella. Flagellum expression is one of the virulence factors modulated by Quorum Sensing. Epinephrine produced by mammals uses the same signaling pathway of the 3 bacteria autoinducer. This study evaluated the effect of molecules inducer (epinephrine) and autoinducers (autoinducer 2 and autoinducer 3) and their association with the motility, growth and expression genes flhC, fliA, fliY, motA, motB e fliC of Salmonella Typhimurium (ST). Initially, ST was inoculated in BHI. Then, motility assays, growth curves and gene expression were performed by testing different concentrations of...
