In my work, which is summarised in this paper for obtaining accreditation to supervise research (the HDR), I addressed three areas: i) statistical methods of estimating the density of living resources, ii) mathematical models of population dynamics for estimating the abundance of marine populations and iii) methods for detecting temporal changes in the status of exploited populations. My work has focused on: i) Many studies of the observability of fish by trawling and by video and the development of stochastic models to better assess local fish densities. ii) Development of models without commercial catches, using Bayesian and frequentist approaches; the study of multi-specific relationships and the proposal for a threshold predator-prey model. iii)...

Les évaluations de stocks conchylicoles font partie des travaux que les laboratoires côtiers de l'IFREMER accomplissent de manière périodique, tous les cinq ans à Marennes Oléron. L'année 2001 était celle de l'échantillonnage exhaustif à Marennes Oléron, opéré par le LCPC, soutenu par la Section Régionale Conchylicole de Marennes Oléron. Les nouvelles techniques mises au point par le laboratoire pour réaliser ces évaluations apportent une connaissance beaucoup plus fine au niveau spatial de la disposition des élevages et de l'utilisation qui est faite par la profession du Domaine Public Maritime (DPM). Precision of acoustic fish abundance estimates: separating the number of schools from the biomass in the schools ArchiMer

The gulf of Cariaco, Venezuela, is a rather isolated piece of coastal ocean where spatio-temporal variability has been measured. In 1986, three repeated surveys have been carried out in this gulf. The important differences in biomass estimates are attributed to sampling error only. The biological nature of this variability is studied. It is due to a high concentration of the biomass in a few schools and correlatively to the hit or the miss of these large schools, during the sampling. Structural information for predicting them is sought. Also, the number of schools per elementary sampling distance unit (ESDU) and the biomass in each school were measured by echointegration. Rationalisation de l'échantillonnage biologique pour l'évaluation des stocks des pêcheries marines en golfe de Gascogne ArchiMer

The aim of the project "rationalization of biological sampling for stock assessment of marine fisheries in the bay of Biscay" is to perform statistical methods and computer programs allowing to test prognoses and diagnoses based on estimates of fishing mortalities, recruitments, yields per recruit, and the "gain-loss" function. The project gathers the laboratories of the community working on the Bay of Biscay fisheries, namely - Santander in Spain (1. E. 0) - La Rochelle and Lorient in France (IFREMER). A descriptive study has been carried out.
