La evapotranspiración de referencia (ETo) es un proceso no lineal empleado para determinar la cantidad de agua utilizada en los programas de irrigación. El nivel de precisión de esta variable a partir de datos históricos, ha sido siempre fundamental. En este trabajo, se presenta una aplicación de las Máquinas de Soporte Vectorial (SVMs) para la predicción de ETo y se compara su capacidad predictiva con otras dos metodologías de predicción: Redes Neuronales Artificiales de Multicapa (MLP) y modelos Autoregresivos Integrados de Promedio Móvil (ARIMA). Experimentalmente, el cálculo de la evapotranspiración se realiza con una precisión razonable usando lisímetros de pesada, técnicas de Eddy Correlation y relación de Bowen. Estos métodos son limitados, ya que proporcionan valores puntuales de evapotranspiración para un lugar en específico y no proporciona la ET a una escala regional. La aplicación de una estimación de la evapotranspiración mediante el uso de mediciones de satélites puede llegar a superar estas limitaciones. En la agricultura uno de los elementos indispensables para promover el uso eficiente del agua, consiste en estimar con precisión la Evapotranspiración (ET). Sin embargo la principal limitante de las técnicas tradicionales para estimar la ET, es que están basadas en el coeficiente de cultivo (Kc), lo que representa una gran desventaja cuando se requieren estimaciones precisas en áreas agrícolas extensas como distritos de riego. Linkages Among Water Vapor Flows, Food Production, and Terrestrial Ecosystem Services Ecology and Society

Global freshwater assessments have not addressed the linkages among water vapor flows, agricultural food production, and terrestrial ecosystem services. We perform the first bottom-up estimate of continental water vapor flows, subdivided into the major terrestrial biomes, and arrive at a total continental water vapor flow of 70,000 km3/yr (ranging from 56,000 to 84,000 km3/yr). Of this flow, 90% is attributed to forests, including woodlands (40,000 km3/yr), wetlands (1400 km3/yr), grasslands (15,100 km3/yr), and croplands (6800 km3/yr). ABSTRACT This study aimed at testing the fit of continuous probability distributions to a daily reference evapotranspiration dataset (ET0) at a 75% probability level for designing of irrigation systems. Reference evapotranspiration was estimated by the Penman-Monteith method (FAO-56-PM) for eight locations, within the state of Espírito Santo (Brazil), where there are automatic gauge stations. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different irrigation levels on canopy and root growth, productivity, and fruit quality of young ‘Tahiti’ acid lime trees. The experiment was installed in Piracicaba, Brazil in a 1.0-ha orchard plot with ‘Tahiti’ acid lime trees, grafted on ‘Swingle’ citrumelo rootstock and carried out from August of 2002 to May 2005. ABSTRACT Crop growth simulation models such as WOFOST and DSSAT are useful, but require several inputs that sometimes are not available, especially in developing areas. In addition, measured data is usually time and labor-intensive. In search of faster and easier methods for soybean estimates, this study presents a lower input requiring methodology for yield estimation. This study combines the FAO-33 yield model with the agro-ecological zone approach for soybean yield estimations using mostly indirect data. In this sense, yield response factor (Ky) allows evaluating the decrease in yield as a function of the evapotranspiration that occurs, which may be an important tool for harvest forecasting. Therefore, this study aimed to determine Ky for winter corn crop grown in the region of Dourados, MS, Brazil. For that, we estimated daily reference evapotranspiration over a certain period (time series between 1982 and 2012) through different empirical methods. These methods consisted of Blaney-Criddle (BC), Hargreaves & Samani (HS), ASCE Penman-Monteith (ASCE- PM), Penman (1948/1963) (PO), Priestley-Taylor (PT), which were all compared to the standard Penman-Monteith FAO-56 (PM-FAO56). The objective of this study was to evaluate the meteorological variables, water deficiency, growth, and agro-industrial yield of sugarcane varieties: RB72454, RB863129, RB867515, RB92579, RB93509, RB931003, RB951541, and RB971755, in rainfed crop in two harvests in the Rio Largo-AL region. The meteorological variables were obtained in an automatic station and water balance was done by Thornthwaite & Mather method. During the study period, the air temperature ranged from 16.6 to 35.9 ºC. In the first production cycle rained 1,806 mm and the crop evapotranspiration was 1,775 mm. RESUMO: Este trabalho objetivou determinar a necessidade hídrica e os coeficientes de cultura em feijão, trigo, milho e arroz irrigados por aspersão do tipo pivô-central, visando ao manejo da água com tanque classe A. O feijão e o trigo foram cultivados na época da seca com plena irrigação enquanto o milho e o arroz, no período das chuvas, com suplementação hídrica.
