Naturalis Smit, J.T.. Everlasting flowers as a vector for exotic insects (Diptera: Tephritidae)? In this paper two rearing occasions of exotic fruit fly species of the genus Terellia are documented. Terellia fuscicornis (Loew, 1844) was reared from a ‘tropical’ plant (probably a thistle species) of unknown origin. Terellia longicauda (Meigen, 1830) was reared from Cirsium rivulare from southern France. On both occasions the plants were left to dry to serve as everlasting flowers. The differences between these exotic and a similar native Terellia-species are given. It is unsure if these introduced species can become established in the Netherlands. Invasieve Arthropoda in Nederland: een eerste inventarisatie Hieronder worden soorten verstaan die zich sinds 1950 in Nederland gevestigd hebben en zich sterk hebben uitgebreid. Het overzicht kwam tot stand via een enquête onder circa 50 specialisten en beperkt zich tot de soorten waarvan het invasieve karakter duidelijk en gedocumenteerd is. De totale lijst bevat 104 invasieve soorten Arthropoda en geeft basale informatie over het voorkomen in Nederland, biologie, ecologie en relevante literatuur. De volgende resultaten met betrekking tot de herkomst van invasieve Arthropoda zijn gepresenteerd: • het grootste deel (73%) van de invasieve Arthropoda is afkomstig uit Europa; • de niet-Europese invasieve Arthropoda zijn afkomstig uit alle andere... Tijdens importinspecties worden geregeld brandmieren aangetroffen. Solenopsis invicta, S. geminata en S. richteri zijn notoire invasieve exoten die in grote delen van de wereld voor veel overlast zorgen. Hierdoor besloot het Team Invasieve Exoten van het Ministerie van el&i om een risicoanalyse voor brandmieren uit te laten voeren. Deze moest inzicht geven in het aantal importen in Nederland, of ze zich kunnen vestigen, welke gevolgen vestigingen kunnen hebben voor de mens en de natuur, en op welke wijze brandmieren bestreden kunnen worden. In Nederland komen steeds meer exotische insecten voor. Vooral soorten die als larve in planten leven hebben een goede kans om geïmporteerd te worden. De larven van boorvliegen leven in stengels, bladeren en vruchten en worden dan ook veel met plantenmateriaal verplaatst. Ze vormen een economisch belangrijke groep omdat sommige soorten schade aanrichten in de fruit- en sierteelt. The significance of nature friendly banks for the aquatic invertebrate fauna The last 25 years the Ministry of Transport constructed more than 450 km of nature friendly banks along their waters to compensate the destruction of nature by defending the banks with stone and steel. In this study the differences in the composition of the aquatic invertebrate fauna between the traditional banks and the nature friendly banks was investigated. In nature friendly banks the number of species, diversity and the number of rare species increases and the distribution of the feeding guilds is more natural. Ceratitis cosyra, an African fruitfly found in the Dutch province of Drenthe (Diptera: Tephritidae) A single specimen of Ceratitis (Ceratalaspis) cosyra (Walker, 1849) was collected near Papenvoort (utm ld4768) with a malaisetrap in the period 4-6 september 1993 (leg. L. Witmond). Up till now it was believed to be one of the few specimens of Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann, 1824) collected in the field in the Netherlands. Re-examination of the specimen revealed it’s true identity. Both species are very similar except for the colour-pattern on the thorax which is illustrated for both species. In 1976 werd de Argentijnse mier Linepithema humile voor het eerst in Nederland waargenomen. Daarna zijn tientallen waarnemingen gedaan. Hoewel ze ook wel buitenshuis werden gezien, werd aangenomen dat het om een subtropische exoot ging die zich binnenshuis ophoudt. Uit recent naspeurwerk blijkt dat deze wereldwijd voorkomende plaagmier zich in het relatief koude Nederland uitstekend buitenshuis kan handhaven. Invasion of the New-Zealand wheat bug Nysius huttoni in the Netherlands (Heteroptera: Lygaeidae) In 2006 the European Invertebrate Survey - Netherlands, by order of the National Plant Protection Organisation, conducted a survey of the distribution and population characteristics of the true bug Nysius huttoni White, 1878. This is originally an endemic species of New Zealand, which was first discovered in the Netherlands in 2002 (Aukema et al. 2005). Presumably this species has been introduced to Europe through the harbour of Antwerp. In New Zealand this species is an economically important pest species, known as the wheat bug (Schaefer & Panizzi 2000). Merodon batumicus, a syrphid fly new to the Dutch fauna (Diptera: Syrphidae) A female specimen of Merodon batumicus Paramonov, 1927 was collected in 1972 in the forested park around Huys te Warmont, to the north of Leiden (province of Zuid- Holland). The region is known for its bulb cultivating companies and fields. This is the first record for the Netherlands. Most likely the specimen was introduced with bulb material from Turkey. The species has been collected rarely within its range which comprises the Caucasus and Turkey. In het boek De wespen en mieren van Nederland uit 2004 wordt een overzicht gegeven van de kennis van de Nederlandse mierenfauna. In dit artikel worden de nieuwe inzichten samengevat. Zo zijn maar liefst zes nieuwe soorten voor ons land te melden en van diverse andere soorten is interessante nieuwe informatie beschikbaar. Zo blijkt de bekende bosmier Formica polyctena te hybridiseren met F. rufa en wordt daarom gesynonymiseerd. De langschubmier Lasius bicornis blijkt niet uitgestorven. Het is opmerkelijk dat over zo’n goed bekende diergroep als de mieren nog zoveel nieuws te ontdekken valt. All specimens were observed in or near potential overwintering sites far away from suitable breeding sites and mainly in coastal areas, suggesting large distance dispersal. Naturalis Heijerman, T.; Hellingman, S.. In 2003 werd de snuitkever Otiorhynchus apenninus voor het eerst voor Nederland gemeld. In die bijdrage werd aan het slot de opmerking gemaakt dat het wachten nu is op de volgende Otiorhynchus-soort, namelijk O. armadillo. Het heeft een paar jaar geduurd, maar nu is het dan zover. Ook deze soort heeft zich in Nederland gevestigd en lijkt zo succesvol, dat aangenomen mag worden dat dit ook een blijvertje is. In deze bijdrage wordt een overzicht gegeven van de bekende vangsten tot nog toe en enige informatie over herkenning, voorkomen en ecologie.
