Demanda de tortilla de maíz en México, 1996-2008. Colegio de Postgraduados
Retes Mantilla, Rogel Fernando.

The Impact of Broadband on U.S. Agriculture: An Evaluation of the USDA Broadband Loan Program AgEcon
Kandilov, Amy M.G.; Kandilov, Ivan T.; Liu, Xiangping; Renkow, Mitch.
We evaluate the impact of USDA’s low-cost broadband loan programs on the U.S. agricultural sector. The broadband loan programs increase access to high-speed internet in recipient communities, which can raise farm sales by increasing both farm output and prices received by producers. Further, high-speed internet may drive down costs by providing information on cheaper inputs and better management practices, leading to an overall improvement in farm profits. Using data from the 1997, 2002, and 2007 U.S. Census of Agriculture, we employ a panel difference-in-differences estimator, as well as a difference-in-differences propensity score matching estimator, to show that the two USDA broadband loan programs have positive impacts on farm sales, expenditure,...

Multiple regression analysis of the net income and consumption expenditure of Chinese rural households during 2007 AgEcon
Da, Wa; Xiao, Hong; Zhuo, Ma.
We use the regression analysis method of multivariate statistical analysis to establish a multiple linear regression model about the net income and consumption expenditure of Chinese rural households during the year 2007. This paper analyzes the internal relation between the net income and consumption expenditure of Chinese rural households according to the regression result. Some reasonable suggestions are put forward for raising the income of rural households and stimulating consumption.

DETERMINANTS OF U.S. HOUSEHOLD EXPENDITURES ON FRUIT AND VEGETABLES: A NOTE AND UPDATE AgEcon
Nayga, Rodolfo M., Jr..
This study examines the various factors affecting household expenditure on fresh and processed fruit and vegetables in the U.S. using the 1992 Consumer Expenditure Survey. Empirical results suggest that higher income, better educated, larger, and older households spend more on fresh and processed fruit and vegetables than do other households. Seasonal and regional variations are also evident.

Eradication of Exotic Weeds in Australia: Comparing Effort and Expenditure AgEcon
Hester, Susan M.; Odom, Doreen I.S.; Cacho, Oscar J.; Sinden, Jack A..
Weeds have many adverse impacts on agriculture and the environment and therefore are often targets of eradication attempts. Eradication attempts involve large commitments of labour and financial resources over significant periods of time. Using data from 12 Australian weed eradication attempts the authors compare work hours and expenditure on each attempt for various initial-infestation sizes. Analysis of a limited data set shows: (1) that while the eradication effort increases with the initial area of infestation, the effort applied per hectare actually decreases; (2) that application of a greater work effort was not the reason why completed eradications were successful; and (3) that the larger the initial infestation size, the smaller the amount of...

Household income and expenditure of farmers in Lao PDR: Comparison between rubber tree and sugarcane farmers Thai Agricultural
Leuangsay Phanthasith; Piansak Pakdee; Thanaporn Athipanyakul.
The objective of this study was to compare household income and expenditure between rubber tree and sugarcane farmers. The purposive sampling technique was used for data collection, and a structured questionnaire was used to interview a total of 100 farmers. A descriptive analysis was applied. The results indicated that in 2000-2010, the household income of rubber tree farmers was higher than those sugarcane farmers, especially in long run. The household consumption has increased during 2000-2010. The rubber tree farmers expensed their consumption in food item more than rice, but it was contrary for the sugarcane farmers. The net income of the rubber tree farmers was also greater than the sugarcane farmers; even it was negative in 2005. This can imply that...
