Introduction to exploring opportunities for advancing collaborative adaptive management (CAM): integrating experience and practice Ecology and Society

This Special Feature of Ecology and Society seeks to communicate a practitioner’s perspective on the application of collaborative adaptive management (CAM) to contemporary natural resource management problems. One goal is to create an ongoing mechanism for dialogue that can connect practitioners, researchers, and policy makers. The core 15 papers are grouped into 3 categories that: (1) describe lessons learned through the practice of applying CAM principles to a specific project or generalizing principles from outcomes of a specific project; (2) summarize lessons learned from the author’s extensive CAM experiences; and (3) seek to be instructive of one or more CAM principles through a survey, evaluation, or comparison of multiple...

Dynamic Processes in Contingent Valuation: A Case Study Involving the Mahogany Glider AgEcon

This paper reports the results of an experiment involving a sample of 204 members of the public who were assessed on three occasions about their willingness to pay for the conservation of the mahogany glider. They were asked this question prior to information being provided to them about the glider and other focal wildlife species; after such information was provided, and finally after participants had had an opportunity to see live specimens of this glider. The mean willingness to pay of the relevant samples are compared and found to show significant variations. Theories are considered that help explain the dynamics of these variations. Enhancing Learning via the Internet: The Internet Agricultural Bank Simulation Game AgEcon

The Oklahoma Agricultural Bank Simulation Game (Ag Bank Sim) is a software based, experiential learning tool through which participants historically have learned key financial, economic, and banking lessons. The game offers a “real world” experience in which management decisions affect institutions interacting in a geographic market, enhancing understanding of the complex, competitive environment within which commercial banks operate. A new Internet version of the game has been developed, allowing participants to play Ag Bank Sim in a virtual environment.
