Plot size and number of replicates in times of sowing and cuts of millet AGRIAMBI
Burin,Cláudia; Cargnelutti Filho,Alberto; Alves,Bruna M.; Toebe,Marcos; Kleinpaul,Jéssica A..
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to determine the optimum plot size (Xo) and number of replicates to evaluate millet shoot fresh matter in times of sowing and cuts. Uniformity trials of 6 × 4 m (24 m2) were carried out in three sowing times, in the agricultural year of 2013-2014. Each uniformity trial was divided into 24 basic experimental units (BEU) of 1 × 1 m (1 m2) and the shoot fresh matter of plants in each BEU was weighed. The Xo was determined by the method of maximum curvature of the coefficient of variation model. The number of replicates for experiments in completely randomized and randomized block design, in scenarios of combinations of i treatments (i = 3, 4, ..., 50) and d minimal differences between treatment means, to be detected as...

Size and form of plots for the culture of the Italian pumpkin in plastic greenhouse Scientia Agricola
Mello,Rodrigo Machado; Dal'Col Lúcio,Alessandro; Storck,Lindolfo; Lorentz,Leandro Homrich; Carpes,Ricardo Howes; Boligon,Alexandra Augusti.
Quality control is the guaranty that experimental error is kept under acceptable levels, and the definition of the proper size and form of experimental plots ensures acurate experimental planning. This paper aims to determine the proper plot size and shape for the culture of the Italian pumpkin in protected environments. Two experiments were set in plastic green house in distinct crop seasons: either Summer-Fall or Winter-Spring season. The experiment comprised eight, 23-m long lines with 20 plants each, and fruit weight was considered the main performance parameter. Estimates of best plots size and shape were obtained by the maximum curvature, variance comparison and Hatheway methods. The plot size and shape varied according to the season and the ideal...

Plot size and number of replications for ryegrass experiments Ciência Rural
Toebe,Marcos; Cargnelutti Filho,Alberto; Carvalho,Juliana Oliveira de; Tartaglia,Francieli de Lima; Cortes,Alessandra Ferreira; Mello,Anderson Chuquel; Melo,Patrícia Jesus de.
ABSTRACT: The objective of this research was to determine the optimal plot size and the number of replications to evaluate the fresh matter of ryegrass sown to haul. Twenty uniformity trials were conducted, each trial with 16 basic experimental units (BEU) of 0.5 m2. At 117, 118 and 119 days after sowing, the fresh matter of ryegrass in the BEUs of 5, 10 and 5 uniformity trials, respectively, were determined. The optimal plot size was determined by the maximum curvature method of the variation coefficient model. Next, the replications number was determined in scenarios formed by combinations of i treatments (i = 3, 4, ... 50) and d minimum differences between means of treatments to be detected as significant at 5% of probability by the Tukey test,...

Spatial dependence and experimental precision in snap bean ( Phaseolus vulgaris L.) trials related to the number of plants and harvests Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Lúcio,Alessandro Dal'Col; Benz,Vilson; Storck,Lindolfo; Cargnelutti Filho,Alberto.
ABSTRACT The productive variability in horticultural crops affects the planning and quality of the experiments, leading to wrong conclusions. The objectives of this study were to verify the spatial dependence of the fresh biomass of snap beans and to dimension the number of plants and harvests that are necessary to improve experimental accuracy in trials. The data of the fresh biomass of snap beans from uniformity trials carried out in a greenhouse and in the field with semivariograms were created with data transformed into indicators. Thus, they were combined on scenarios of plot size and harvest grouping, and they were adjusted to the spherical, exponential and Gaussian models. A response surface was also applied, with the variation coefficient as a...
