Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the consistency of the methods of Annicchiarico, Lin & Binns, Wricke, and factor analysis in identifying eucalyptus clones with stability, adaptability, and high productive potential. Eight-four clones, with three years of age, from the genetic breeding program of the company CMPC Celulose Riograndense were used. Three field experiments were carried out in a randomized complete block design, in an 84x3 factorial arragement, with 20 replicates of one plant per plot. The clones were evaluated as to diameter at breast height, plant height, and volume of wood. The methods of Annicchiarico and Lin & Binns are highly correlated with each other, and their use together with the method of Wricke is a... |

Abstract The cultivation of papaya under greenhouse has become recently a profitable alternative for horticultural crops in different regions of the world, among them South East Spain. The objective of this work was to determine the sample size to evaluate fruit quality features in mature fruits of ‘BH-65’ papaya cultivated under greenhouse in Almería (Spain). With this aim, fruits were harvested at stage 2 in July 2013, and at the end of the production cycle in March 2014. On each occasion and when fruits reached maturation phenological stage 5, 26 fruits were evaluated for physical characteristics (weight, length, diameter, cavity width), total soluble solids content, and color attributes of skin and pulp. The optimal sample size was calculated using a... |

ABSTRACT Were evaluated three characters in papaya seedlings 'Baixinho de Santa Amália' to estimate the optimum plot size and the number of replications in a completely randomized experiment, a randomized block and Latin square. The characters were seedling height, leaf number and length of roots from uniformity test with 240 seedlings. The determination of the optimum plot size was done by applying the method of Hatheway (1961). The number of seedlings per plot for seedling production is variable depending on the number of treatments and replications assumed precision, the character in question and the experimental design. Comparing designs, the plot size is greater in the Latin square, followed by a randomized block design and completely randomized, and... |

ABSTRACT: The aim of this research was to determine the sample size needed to estimate the average of wild passion fruit ( Passiflora caerulea ) traits. It was collected randomly, 133, 99 and 133 fruit of wild passion fruit in 30, 21 and 29 plants, located respectively, in the cities of São Borja, Itaqui and Uruguaiana, on the west border of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, totaling 365 fruits harvested in 80 plants. In each fruit were measured ten traits: width, length, fruit, skin, and pulp weight, pulp yield, luminosity and tone of skin and pulp. Then, central tendency, dispersion and distribution measures were calculated and the normality of the data checked. After, it was determined the sample size needed to estimate the average for each character, assuming... |
