An Empirical Evaluation of New Socialist Countryside Development in China AgEcon
Guo, Xiang-Yu; Yu, Zhi-Gang; Schmit, Todd M.; Henehan, Brian M.; Li, Dan.
China prioritized a New Socialist Countryside reform policy in 2005 to address the growing disparities in incomes and living standards between rural and urban populations. These policies are evaluated to provide a base line index of reform concerning farmer, agricultural, and rural economic development. Aggregate index scores are computed to rank provincial progress. Rankings indicate the progression of rural economic reform is moderate, at best, and mostly isolated to well-developed eastern provinces. Reform growth is also uneven across similarly, rural provinces indicating a need for continued attention in these poorer areas. More importantly, as reform efforts continue, the empirical framework established can be used to track relative performance over...

The analysis is based on survey questionnaires administered to 263 undergraduate minority students at Alabama A&M University. The questionnaire contained questions related to respondents’ demographic characteristics and likert-scale questions pertaining to students’ perceptions of globalization and studying abroad...

Analysis and Market Prospects of a Traditional Calabrian Product AgEcon
Gulisano, Giovanni; Platania, Marco.
The strategies for exploiting typical production represents a theme of great interest, above all in the measure in which exploitation brought about via adequate marketing strategies allows these products to shed their anonymity. This paper constitutes a contribution in this direction, since it analyses the potential of a traditional product ('Nduja) using multivariate analysis techniques on a sample of consumers, identified by a specific market research survey. This made it possible to define the main characteristics of the type of consumer of this product and to define suitable market segmentation strategies.

Consumer Preference Variation between Domestic and Imported Food AgEcon
Parcell, Joseph L.; Gedikoglu, Haluk.
Increasing concerns about a healthy diet, food safety and support for the local economy provide new opportunities for farmers to increase their farm income by locally selling their farm products. The major challenge for farmers making local sales is to predict consumer preferences correctly and provide goods to the market accordingly. By analyzing results from a consumer survey conducted in the Midwest, the current study determines the consumer preferences for domestic artisan cheese compared with processed cheese and imported French cheese compared with U.S. artisan cheese. The results of the econometric analysis show that consumer preferences vary between domestic and imported cheese. The results also show that experience attributes are more influential...
