Livestock and water interactions in mixed crop-livestock farming systems of Sub-Saharan Africa: Interventions for improved productivity AgEcon
Descheemaeker, Katrien; Amede, Tilahun; Haileslassie, Amare.
Focusing on mixed crop-livestock farming systems of sub-Saharan Africa, this review brings together the available knowledge in the various components of the livestock and water sectors. Through an analysis of livestock-water interactions, promising strategies and interventions to improve Livestock Water Productivity are proposed. In the biophysical domain, the numerous interventions relate to feed, water and animal management. These are interlinked with interventions in the socio-political-economic domain. The paper identifies critical research and development gaps in terms of methodologies for quantifying water productivity and integrating different scales, and also in terms of institutions and policies.

ผลของการใช้กากถั่วเหลืองหมักในสูตรอาหารต่อการย่อยได้ของโภชนะในลูกสุกรหย่านม Thai Agricultural
Daorung Sila-on; Chanika Chanthasa.
The objective of this study was to examine effect of using fermented soybean meal with pineapple peel juice in diet on nutrients digestibility in weaning pigs. Twelve male weaning pigs, 5-weeks-old were used in a completely randomized design (CRD). There were 4 treatments; group 1 and 2 were 22% protein diet with soybean meal and fermented soybean meal, respectively and group 3 and 4 were 20% protein diet with soybean meal and fermented soybean meal, respectively. The result was found that digestibility of dry matter, organic matter, protein, fat, fiber and ash in all groups were not statistically significant difference (P>0.05). Therefore, the use of fermented soybean meal with pineapple peel juice 22% and 20% in diet did not affect nutrients...

This study was undertaken to determine the in vitro protein digestibility in feed ingredients (fish meal, soy bean meal, corn and rice bran) in bocurti’s catfish at two sizes; small size with weight 30-40 grm/fish and big size with weight 80-100 grm/fish. This information was conducted to generat data for suitable feed formulation for bocurti’s catfish culture. Protease activity had optimum pH at 8 for stomach in both size of fish. Protease activity extracted from intestine with different pH had optimum pH at 12 and pH 10 for small size and big size of fish, respectively. The protein digestibility of feed ingredients was measured in vitro using whole intestine enzyme extract from the bocurti’s catfish. The in vitro protein digestibility was shown...

An experiment was conducted to study on modified nutrient composition of crude palm meal by Sacharomyces cerevisiae and Bacillus subtilis for development as protein feedstuff. The experimental design was 4 x 3 factorial in completely randomized design (CRD) with two factors. Factor A was fermented period (0, 15, 30 and 45 day), factor B was type of microorganism (Sacharomyces cerevisiae: SC-105 (S), Bacillus subtilis: BSC-23 (B), and S+B (50:50)). The results were shown that there was interaction between factor A and factor B on weight yield (3,090.56-3,730.33 g) and percentage yield (47.62-57.43%) (P<0.01). The nutrient composition of crude palm meal that fermented by Sacharomyces cerevisiae showed higher crude protein than that fermented by Bacillus...

Development and Evaluation of a Fish Feed Mixer CIGR Journal
ADEBUKOLA, ADENIGBA ADEMOLA.
Abstract A Fish feed mixing machine was designed, developed and the effect of speed and retention time on the performance of the mixer was evaluated. The mixing system was tested using three fish feed ingredients; bone meal, groundnut cake and maize grain which was purchased from the market in Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria. The moisture content of the bought ingredients was determined to be 13.1%, 14.7% and 17.5% moisture content dry basis respectively. The mixer was tested using a feed component of three equal measures of 10 kg of ground corn (maize), milled groundnut cake and bone meal which were initially retained on 2 mm, 850 µm and 150 µm sieve respectively. The experiment was replicated thrice at four retention time (5 min, 10 min, 15 min and 20 min)...
