Calcium particle size and feeding time influence egg shell quality in laying hens Animal Sciences
Saki, Aliasghar; Rahmani, Abbas; Yousefi, Azam.
An experiment with Leghorn laying hens was undertaken to determine the effect of oyster shell particle size and feeding time on different production variables, calcium retention, plasma calcium content and egg internal and external quality. Two hundred Leghorn layers (40 weeks old old) were allocated in five dietary treatments with four replicates during ten weeks. Two particle size combinations (wherein 50% of calcium substituted by medium or coarse particles (1-2 mmand 2-4 mmrespectively) and two feeding time (8-pm or 9-am) were compared against a control diet (100% ground, <1 mmwhich fed with meal). Egg number, egg production, egg mass and feed conversion ratio did not differ among treatments (p > 0.05). Hens fed diets containing coarse Ca had...

The combined effects of feeding time and dietary fat levels on feed intake, growth and body composition in rainbow trout ArchiMer
Gelineau, Anne; Bolliet, Valérie; Corrraze, Geneviève; Boujard, Thierry.
The combined effects of feeding time (morning and evening) and dietary fat concentration on feed intake, growth, body composition and lipid tissue distribution were examined in rainbow trout fed on demand. To that purpose, diets with low (LE, 6% lipid) or high energy concentrations (HE, 24% lipid) were used in four treatments that combined provision of the same (HE-HE or LE-LE) or different (HE-LE, LE-HE) diets at morning and evening meals. Digestible energy intakes of the LE-HE (229 U kg(-1) d(-1)) and HE-HE (269 U kg(-1) d(-1)) groups were significantly different. There was no significant difference in the amount of energy intake between the two meals of the day in any of the treatments. The main effect of dietary treatment was on lipid intake; fish in...

Effect of feeding time on digestibility, growth performance and protein metabolism in the rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss: interactions with dietary fat levels ArchiMer
Bolliet, Valérie; Cheewasedtham, Chonlatee; Houlihan, Dominic; Gelineau, Anne; Boujard, Thierry.
The effect of feeding time was studied in rainbow trout fed different dietary levels of fat. Fish were fed either 1 h after light on in the morning or 1 h after light off in the evening with a low energy diet (LE, 6 % lipid) or a high energy diet (HE, 23 % lipid). Regardless of the diet, apparent digestibility and post prandial protein synthesis were higher in fish fed in the morning than in those fed at the beginning of the night. In fish fed the LE diet in the morning, growth performance and nutrient retention efficiency tended to be higher than in those fed at the beginning of the night. In contrast, fish fed the HE diet in the morning had lower protein growth rate, protein content and protein retention efficiency than those fed in the evening. These...

Vectorial capacity of Triatoma guasayana (Wygodzinsky & Abalos) (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) compared with two other species of epidemic importance Neotropical Entomology
Loza-Murguía,Manuel; Noireau,François.
Triatoma guasayana (Wygodzinsky & Abalos) is a peridomestic triatomine with epidemiological importance in Bolivia, that may play an important role in the transmission of Trypanosoma cruzi (Chagas). In this study, two parameters of vectorial capacity were evaluated: the interval of feeding-defecation time and metacyclogenesis, in adult males and females and nymphal instars II to V of T. guasayana with comparisons with Triatoma infestans (Klug) and T. sordida (Stal). The results showed a close relationship between ingestion of blood and beginning of defecation. Values were negative in T. infestans, and T. sordida for instars II, III, IV, and V and also males and females but were positive in female T. sordida. Triatoma guasayana showed only negative...

Influence of feeding time on sexual maturity and carcass composition in female broiler breeders Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Avila,VS de; Penz Jr.,AM; Rosa,PS; Brum,PAR de; Guidoni,AL; Ledur,MC.
One thousand two hundred and ninety six Arbor Acres females and 144 males were used to study the influence of feeding time on sexual maturity and carcass composition. Treatments were: T1 = feeding at 6:30 am, T2 = 50% feeding at 6:30 am and 50% at 3:30 pm (dual), T3 = feeding at 11:00 am, T4 = feeding at 3:30 pm. Nutrition and management were as recommended to the commercial line. Variables studied were: sexual maturity at 5% production (SM), mean egg production percentage (PEP) body weight (BW), carcass composition, tibia weight (TIBW) and tibia calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) contents. Analysis of variance was used, and the means were compared using Student's t test. T2 females reached SM at 25.92 weeks, which was earlier (p<0.01) than the other...

Ingestive behavior of feedlot finished young bulls fed different concentrate levels in the diet R. Bras. Zootec.
Missio,Regis Luis; Brondani,Ivan Luiz; Alves Filho,Dari Celestino; Silveira,Magali Floriano da; Freitas,Leandro da Silva; Restle,João.
This study was developed to evaluate the ingestive behavior of beef cattle finished in feedlots with different concentrate levels in the diet. Sixteen bulls fed 22, 40, 59, or 79% of concentrate in the diet were assigned to a complete randomized design, with four replicates each. The supplied diets were isoproteic and the roughage used was corn silage. Data collection was carried out during the finishing period, with a total of six days. The time given to food intake, rumination, the number of bouts per meal and neutral detergent fiber rumination efficiency decreased linearly as the concentrate levels in the diet increased. Idle time increased linearly accordingly to the increment of concentrate in the diet. The animals have greater feed intake and...

Santana,Aline Evangelista Machado; Neiva,José Neuman Miranda; Restle,João; Sousa,Luciano Fernandes; Miotto,Fabrícia Rocha Chaves; Alencar,Wanderson Martins; Silva,Rafael de Oliveira da; Araújo,Vera Lúcia de.
The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of the use of babassu mesocarp meal (BMM) and corn in different physical forms on the feeding behavior of crossbred young bulls of a dairy breed. Twenty-four crossbred (Nellore vs. Holstein) steers (307.35 kg) were fed four experimental diets containing two levels of inclusion of the babassu mesocarp meal (0 and 412.4 g/kg) and corn in two physical forms (kernels or ground) for 98 days. Data was collected on three days during the finishing phase, with observations every five minutes, for 24 hours. When the activities performed by the animals were evaluated as a function of the period of the day, the physical form of the corn showed interaction with the BMM inclusion level on the time spent...
