Effects on soil chemical attributes and cotton yield from ammonium sulfate and cover crops Agronomy
Ferrari, Samuel; Furlani Júnior, Enes; Godoy, Leandro José Grava de; Ferrari, João Vitor; Souza, Wilson José Oliveira de; Alves, Elza.
Fertilizer use in no-till systems must be aligned with a correct interpretation of soil chemical attributes and crop demands. The objectives of this work were evaluate the effects of pre-sowing application of ammonium sulfate (AS) and of cover crops on the yields and soil chemical attributes of  no-till cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L. r. latifolium Hutch) over two harvesting years. The experiment was arranged in randomized complete block design, with the plots in strips, and the variables were three cover crops (Raphanus sativus L., Avena strigosa L. and Avena sativa L.) and four AS doses (0, 150, 300, and 450 kg ha-1) applied over millet dry biomass. The cotton in the experimental plots was manually harvested on April 25, 2007 and April 24, 2008. The soil...

Ammonium sulphate on maize crops under no tillage Bragantia
Silva,Maria Anita Gonçalves da; Mannigel,Anny Rosi; Muniz,Antonio Saraiva; Porto,Simone Maria Altoé; Marchetti,Marlene Estevão; Nolla,Antonio; Bertani,Rosemary Marques de Almeida.
The objectives of this work were to evaluate the management of N and S (as ammonium sulphate) fertilization under no-tillage system on the components of maize productivity and on N and S accumulation in the crop, as well as to evaluate the minimum value of the Nitrogen Sufficiency Index (NSI 0.95) as an indicator for side dressing requirements. The experiment had a completely randomized block design with six treatments and four replications carried out in Red Latosol dystrophic soil (Hapludox), in Campo Mourão, Paraná State, where the following treatments in summer growth maize were applied: T1- 120 kg ha-1 N in seeding; T2- 120 kg ha-1 N in side dressing; T3- 40 kg ha-1 N in seeding and 80 kg ha-1 N in side dressing; T4- 30 kg ha-1 N in seeding and 90 kg...

Yield response to fertilization strategies in no-tillage soybean, corn and common bean crops BABT
Pauletti,Volnei; Serrat,Beatriz Monte; Motta,Antonio Carlos Vargas; Favaretto,Nerilde; Anjos,Adilson dos.
Two research fields were conducted on a Haplohumox from 1998 and to 2005. The study aimed to evaluate the strategies for starter fertilizer application on corn, soybean and common bean yield as well as the accumulation of earlier dry matter for corn in a no-tillage crop rotation system in south of Brazil. There was no increase in the yield of soybean with phosphorus and potassium application for at least seven seasons, while corn and common bean showed increased yields with phosphorus, potassium and nitrogen application. For soybean, corn and common beans in no-tillage systems with high levels of phosphorus and medium of potassium, the starter fertilizer can be applied in any of the methods evaluated and in any of the period considered. The presence or...

Micronutrient Accumulation in Conilon Coffee Berries with Different Maturation Cycles Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Marré,Wellington Braida; Partelli,Fábio Luiz; Espindula,Marcelo Curitiba; Dias,Jairo Rafael Machado; Gontijo,Ivoney; Vieira,Henrique Duarte.
ABSTRACT The number of days between anthesis and maturation of conilon coffee berries varies according to the genotype. Thus, it is believed that periods of greater nutrient demand for fruit formation also vary according to the genotype, directly influencing fertilizer management. The goal of this study was to establish accumulation curves for the micronutrients boron, copper, iron, manganese, and zinc in conilon coffee trees with different maturation cycles. The experiment was conducted in Nova Venécia, State of Espírito Santo, Brazil, during the reproductive cycle of the 2010/2011 crop year. Four coffee genotypes with different maturation cycles (early, intermediate, late, and super-late) were studied. A completely randomized experimental design was used...

Managing agricultural phosphorus to minimize water quality impacts Scientia Agricola
Sharpley,Andrew.
ABSTRACT Eutrophication of surface waters remains a major use-impairment in many countries, which, in fresh waters, is accelerated by phosphorus (P) inputs from both point (e.g., municipal waste water treatment plants) and nonpoint sources (e.g., urban and agricultural runoff). As point sources tend to be easier to identify and control, greater attention has recently focused on reducing nonpoint sources of P. In Brazil, agricultural productivity has increased tremendously over the last decade as a consequence, to a large extent, of increases in the use of fertilizer and improved land management. For instance, adoption of the “4R” approach (i.e., right rate, right time, right source, and right placement of P) to fertilizer management can decrease P runoff....

High variation occurs due to climate changes includes low rainfall and uncertain distribution pattern. This affects rice production system. Farmers currently adjust their production system in order to minimize risks of crop losses. This study aims to develop the most suitable cultural practices and chemical fertilizer application for delayed transplanting crop. The adjusted production system to deal with the climate change includes a choice of varieties, cultural practices, water management, and nutrient management. The results from the farmers' interview at the beginning of the project indicated that most farmers faced the problem related to insufficient amount of water for the whole cropping season, late rainfall, dry spell or even drought problem. The...
