OBSERVHAL96, campagne d'observations à finalité halieutique ArchiMer
Latrouite, Daniel; Antoine, Loic; Cosson, Nathalie; Danel, Patrick; Desaunay, Yves; Dupouy, Herve; Galgani, Francois; Lorance, Pascal; Morandeau, Fabien; Morizur, Yvon; Rivoalen, Jean-jacques; Sacchi, Jacques; Troadec, Herve.
The scientific cruise Observhal96 took place in August 4-27, 1996 with the underwater system for exploration and intervention « Cyana » and the support vessel « Suroît ». The goal of this IFREMER first use of a man opereted submersible for a fisheries study was to observe fishes and invertebrates in their environment, as well as fishing gears in operation. All the dives, 2 to 5 hours long, took place off Brittany in Atlantic. Five were shalower than 100 meters, nine between 100 and 200 meters, one at 400 meters and for deeper than 1000 meters. Six dives have been dedicated to in situ study of the impact of fishing gears : observation of the geometry of a monkfish tramel net and analysis of losses during hauling ; tracks of a bottom trawl and relative...

Homing abilities of dolphinfish (Coryphaena hippurus) displaced from fish aggregating devices (FADs) determined using ultrasonic telemetry ArchiMer
Girard, C; Dagorn, L; Taquet, Marc; Aumeeruddy, R; Peignon, C; Benhamou, S.
We conducted displacement experiments using acoustic tags to study the orientation abilities of dolphinfish (Coryphaena hippurus) around FADs. Eleven fish were passively monitored using coded transmitters and acoustic receivers attached to FADs, while seven others were actively tracked with a vessel using continuous acoustic tags equipped with pressure sensors. All these 18 dolphinfish were captured close to a FAD and released between 70 and 1720 m from it. Five fish out of the 14 that were displaced at more than 360 m from a FAD ( estimated detection range of our acoustic receivers, defining the target area during our experiment) returned to the target area. With one individual successfully returning to the target area after having been released at 1600 m...

Analysis across diverse fish species highlights no conserved transcriptome signature for proactive behaviour ArchiMer
Rey, Sonia; Jin, Xingkun; Damsgård, Børge; Begout, Marie-laure; Mackenzie, Simon.
Background Consistent individual differences in behaviour, known as animal personalities, have been demonstrated within and across species. In fish, studies applying an animal personality approach have been used to resolve variation in physiological and molecular data suggesting a linkage, genotype-phenotype, between behaviour and transcriptome regulation. In this study, using three fish species (zebrafish; Danio rerio, Atlantic salmon; Salmo salar and European sea bass; Dicentrarchus labrax), we firstly address whether personality-specific mRNA transcript abundances are transferrable across distantly-related fish species and secondly whether a proactive transcriptome signature is conserved across all three species. Results Previous zebrafish transcriptome...
