Gomes,Ana Lúcia Silva; Malta,José Celso de Oliveira.
Dolops carvalhoi Lemos de Castro, 1949 was found infesting fish in a fish culture station located in highway AM-010 Manaus-ltacoatiara in the State of Amazonas. Egg laying of D. carvalhoi was studied. Hatching started after 16 days in a temperature span of 26 to 28ºC. Eggs were laid in clusters on hard substrata and covered by a gelatinous material. The number of eggs was 16 to 392 eggs by laying. In the postembryonic development the larvae were hatched from the egg as juveniles (epimorphic development), very similar to the adult shape.

Biodiversity and ecology of the parasitic infracommunities of Loricaria prolixa (Siluriformes: Loricariidae) from the Tietê-Batalha Basin, SP, Brazil Biological Sciences
Pelegrini, Larissa Sbeghen; Januário, Felipe Freitas; Azevedo, Rodney Kozlowisky de; Abdallah, Vanessa Doro.
The parasitic biodiversity of the Loricaria prolixa, an endemic fish from the Paraná and Prata basins was studied and analyzed the parasitic’s communities dynamics and their ecological relations with this host. Samples were collected in the Batalha River and 39 specimens were analyzed from 2014 to 2016. All fishes were parasitized. The component community was composed by twelve species with 8694 metazoan found on the surface, gills, eyes, brain, intestine and blood of the hosts. Demidospermus spirophallus, Diplostomidae gen. sp., Rhabdochona kidderi and Oligobdella sp. showed higher values for the parasitism's ecological descriptors, and were centrals and dominants species. The infracommunities were characterized by specific richness smaller in relation...

Helminth parasites of Cichla ocellaris Bloch & Schneider, 1801 collected in the Jacaré-Pepira River, São Paulo state, Brazil Anais da ABC (AABC)
JANUÁRIO,FELIPE F.; GIÃO,THAYANA; AZEVEDO,RODNEY K. DE; ABDALLAH,VANESSA D..
Abstract:Cichla ocellaris is native to the Amazon region. It is popularly known as tucunaré and is widely used for human consumption. It is difficult to breed in captivity due to its highly predatory habits, it is considered symbolic of sport fishing in Brazil. This study aimed to make a qualitative and quantitative survey of helminth parasites of C. ocellaris. Thirty specimens from the Jacaré-Pepira River, located in the municipality of Ibitinga, in the interior of the state of São Paulo, were studied. The river is located 13 km from the urban area and at an altitude of approximately 600 m. A total of four taxa of metazoan parasites were collected and identified in Cestoda, Digenea, Monogenea and Nematoda. The cestoid Proteocephalus macrophallus presented...

Gill parasites of fish from two estuaries in northeastern Brazil: new hosts and geographical records Anais da ABC (AABC)
GOLZIO,JÉSSICA E.S.A.; FALKENBERG,JÚLIA M.; PRAXEDES,RAYSSA C.G.; COUTINHO,ANDERSON S.; LAURINDO,MYLENA K.; PESSANHA,ANDRÉ; MADI,RUBENS R.; PATRÍCIO,JOANA; VENDEL,ANA L.; SOUZA,GEZA T.R.; MELO,CLÁUDIA M.; LACERDA,ANA CAROLINA F..
ABSTRACT Parasites are important components of communities and constitute great part of the biological diversity found in ecosystems, providing valuable information about their hosts and the environment in which they live. However, despite its importance, parasitic diversity is still not well known in some regions of Brazil, especially with respect to fish parasites in the Northeast Region. The present study aims to perform the survey of gill parasites of fish from two tropical estuaries located in northeastern Brazil: Paraíba and Mamanguape rivers. Two collections were made in each estuary, one during the dry period (November / 2013) and the other during the rainy season (July / 2014). The fish were caught using a beach seine net, dragged along the main...

Sphincterodiplostomum musculosum (Digenea, Diplostomidae) in Geophagus brasiliensis (Perciformes, Cichlidae) collected in a lake at Dois Córregos, São Paulo, Brazil Ciência Rural
Rocha,Rodrigo Severiano; Pelegrini,Larissa Sbeghen; Camargo,Aline de Almeida; Abdallah,Vanessa Doro; Azevedo,Rodney Kozlowiski de.
ABSTRACT: Geophagus brasiliensis is a freshwater cichlid distributed throughout the whole South America. It is a territorial fish, generally omnivorous, which preferentially inhabits the bottom of water bodies. Previous studies have reported species of digenetic trematodes parasitizing G. brasiliensis. This study identifies the Sphincterodiplostomum musculosum Dubois, 1936, a Diplostomidae digenetic, commonly found in many teleostean species. More than 50% of the hosts analyzed had their eyes infected with metacercariae of S. musculosum. A positive correlation was observed between the hosts standard length and the abundance of S. musculosum, a fact that corroborates with other studies on this parasite. This paper reports the first occurrence of S....

Myxozoan infection in the muscle layer of the intestine of Rhamdia quelen from the Amazon River Basin, Brazil Ciência Rural
Abrunhosa,Jacqueline Pompeu; Silva,Michele Velasco Oliveira da; Sindeaux Neto,José Ledamir; Santos,Patrícia de Fátima Sacco dos; Matos,Patrícia Santos; Sanches,Osimar de Carvalho; Matos,Edilson Rodrigues.
ABSTRACT: The present study investigated the morphology and pathology associated with the occurrence of cysts caused by Myxobolus sp. in the intestine of the silver catfish Rhamdia quelen . Comparisons with the other Myxobolus species that infect the intestines of cyprinids and siluriforms revealed that the pyriform spores of Myxobolus sp. are similar in shape to those described previously in M. miyairii, M. duodenalis and M. cunhai, but different in size. Morphometric analyses revealed that mature spores of Myxobolus sp. (10.9 x 5.1μm) are smaller than those of most species except M. cunhai (10.0 x 5.0μm), which has been described infecting the Brazilian catfish Pimelodus clarias , although the spores differ morphologically in relation to the shape of...
