| Catch records of flatfishes obtained in exploratory cruises and in the existing literature in the geographical area between 34°S and 55°S in the Western SOuth Atlantic were analyzed to elaborate maps of the distribution of the most common flatfish species in this area. Data from commercial fleet landings at Mar del Plata Harbor were used to analyze the distribution and areas of resource concentration. The flatfish most frequently found in this study area belong to three families: 1. | The aim of this study was to determine the chemical composition and fatty acids profile present in Argentine anchovy (Engraulis anchoita) northern population as a function of fish size and fishing area (SW Atlantic Ocean, Argentine Sea). Samples were collected during the northern stock assessment cruise of the Instituto Nacional de Investigación y Desarrollo Pesquero (INIDEP) carried out on board of FRV Capitán Oca Balda in Spring 2008 (OB-02/2008). | Basic aspects concerning southern blue whiting (Micromesistius australis) fishing by the Argentine fleet in the period 1989-1995 are analized. Catch and effort statistics, fleet operation modalities and spatial and temporary characteristics of fishing activities are included. The basic information to perform this analysis was collected from the fishing statistics provided by the Subsecretaría de Agricultura, Ganadería y Pesca of Argentina and from reports of the Observers Program on board of the commercial fleet. | Length and age at first maturity was estimated, and the distribution of the spawning stock of castaneta (Cheilodactylus bergi) was analyzed, with the aim of understanding the spawning activity and its relation with oceanographic parameters. Samples came from two research cruises carried out in the Argentine-Uruguayan Common Fishing Zone (CFZ) (SW Atlantic, between 34 degree and 39 degree 30'S), during the end of spawning period (May-June) of 1991 and 1993.
