The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of mycorrhizal association on the interference of Bidens pilosa, Urochloa decumbens and Eleusine indica on soybean culture in two conditions: a) plants competing without contact with roots of another species; b) with contact between roots. At 60 days after planting, growth, nutrient accumulation and mycorrhizal colonization of soybean and weeds were evaluated. The contact between roots of soybean plant and weed species increased the negative interference effects for both species, with less growth and nutrient accumulation. With the individualization of roots, higher competition occurred for soil resources up to 60 days of coexistence between species. In competition with soybean, Bidens pilosa and... |

This study aims to discover the agro-economic yield of the ‘Comum’ tannia, which was propagated with five seedling types (Extra, Large, Medium, Small and Tiny) and grown both with and without a hilling operation during three crop seasons. In each agricultural year, the treatments were arranged as a 5 x 2 factorial in a randomized complete block design with four replications. The harvests were conducted 238 (2007-08), 231 (2008-09) and 237 (2009-10) days after planting. The data were submitted to an analysis of variance each year. The plants produced from large seedlings and RM-corms had a higher fresh leaf weight. Additionally, the dry weight of the RFC-commercial cormels and RFNC-non-commercial cormels was higher with extra seedlings. The plants grown... |

Butia capitata (Mart.) Becc., commonly known as jelly palm, is a palm tree native to the Cerrado biome. It is considered an endangered species owing to intensive extractive exploitation of its fruits, with slow and uneven seminiferous propagation as an aggravating factor. Thereby, there are some bottlenecks related to jelly palm seedling production that needs to be optimized. Light quality and intensity is very important to seedling production, as it controls the metabolism of plants and consequently their growth and development. Thus, the aim of this work is to evaluate the effect of shade nets on the growth and physiological aspects of jelly palm seedlings. The experimental design was completely randomized, with five treatments, ten replicates and eight... |

The objective of this study was to determine the silicon concentration that would provide good growth in passion fruit plants. Passion fruit seeds were sown in polystyrene. After 60 days, when they were approximately 15 cm tall, the plants were transplanted into polyethylene pots containing 1.1 kg Tropstrato® substrate. Treatments consisted of four concentrations (0, 0.28, 0.55, and 0.83 g pot-1) of silicon applied as a silicic acid solution 1%. This solution was applied around the stem of the plants (drenched), with the first application being administered 15 days after transplanting. In total, three applications were made at intervals of 15 days. After the last application, the plants were subjected to chemical analysis to determine the silicon... |

The objective of this study was to evaluate the physiological quality of babassu (Orbignya phalerata Mart.) embryos as a function of desiccation. The fruits were placed in a convection oven at 37±2°C for 0, 3, 6, 9, or 12 days. After these periods, the moisture contents of the fruits and seeds were determined. A reduction in the water content occurred more rapidly in the fruits than in the seeds. The decrease in seed moisture content from 12.59% (on the basis of fresh weight) to 4.56% did not affect the percentage of germinated zygotic embryos; however, we did observe a decline in the vigor as the seed moisture content decreased. Embryos with a 4.56% moisture content developed into seedlings of shorter lengths after 30, 60, and 90 days of in vitro growth.... |

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of row spacing and nitrogen topdressing fertilization of two materials (genotype 07SEQCL441 CL and cultivar BRS Esmeralda) on the plant height, yield components, grain yield, and quality of an upland rice crop grown in a no-tillage system. Trials were conducted for two growing seasons under field conditions in a 3 x 4 factorial, randomized, complete block design, with four replications. For each material, treatments consisted of the combination of row spacing (0.225, 0.35, and 0.45 m) with nitrogen (N) applied as topdressing (0, 50, 100, and 150 kg ha-1). The lowest row spacing (0.225 m) for genotypes 07SEQCL441 CL and BRS Esmeralda provided a higher number of tillers, number of panicles m-2, and grain yield of rice.... |

Most plant species are susceptible to the effects of salinity, such as increases in osmotic potentials and deleterious ionic effects, which in turn affect water absorption in plants and, consequently, compromise germination and seedling growth. Hence, this study aimed to evaluate the effects of salinity on the germination, initial growth, and physiological and biochemical components of S. hispanica seedlings at different temperatures. The experimental design was completely randomized, with treatments distributed in a 5 x 4 factorial scheme with five saline concentrations (0.0 (control), 4.5, 9.0, 13.5, and 18.0 dS m-1) four temperature regimes (20, 25, 30, and 20-30°C), and four replicates of 50 seeds per treatment. The experiment evaluated the... |
