Bacterial flagellins are important virulence-associated factors and strong inducers of inflammatory responses in mammalian hosts. Flagellins have also been investigated as potential vaccine adjuvants, either for induction of humoral or cellular immune responses, to different target antigens. In this study we investigated the adjuvant properties of three Salmonella enterica flagellins types (FliCd, FliCi and FljB) to an ovalbumin-derived CD8+ T cell-restricted epitope (OVA257264). Although mice immunized with the three tested flagellins elicited antigen-specific activated CD8+ T cells, only animals immunized with FliCi and FliCd flagellins admixed with ovalbumin mounted specific in vivo cytotoxic responses to peptide-pulsed target cells. The present results... |

The objective of the present trial was to characterize genetically strains of Campylobacter jejuni subsp. jejuni isolated from humans and several animal sources (bovines, swine, dogs, primates, wild boars and poultry). A total of 828 different animal samples (feces, carcass, aborted fetus and hysterectomized uterus) were analysed by means of routine bacteriological methods, and 36 C. jejuni strains were isolated. Thirty strains of human fecal origin were obtained in clinical analysis laboratories in the city of São Paulo. The 66 C. jejuni strains isolated were submitted to genetic characterization. Primers based on fla A gene were used in a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and amplified a fragment of the 702 bp. PCR products were evaluated by means of... |

ABSTRACT: Clostridium chauvoei toxin A (CctA), neuraminidase (NanA), and flagellin (FliC) proteins contribute to the pathogenicity of Clostridium chauvoei, the causative agent of blackleg in cattle. The aim of this study was to analyze the genetic variability of cctA, nanA, and fliC genes in C. chauvoei isolates from the Rio Grande do Sul and São Paulo state- Brazil, during different sampling periods. The presence of these genes was verified through PCR amplification and partial gene sequencing of 17 strains. Alignment of PCR amplicons combined with bioinformatics analysis was used in an attempt to study the variability across C. chauvoei solates. The similarity among the partial sequences of cctA and nanA genes was 100%. The sequencing of fliC revealed... |
