Karyotype characterization of Crotalaria juncea (L.) by chromosome banding and physical mapping of 18S-5.8S-26S and 5S rRNA gene sites Genet. Mol. Biol.
Mondin,Mateus; Santos-Serejo,Janay A.; Aguiar-Perecin,Margarida L.R..
The chromosomes of Crotalaria juncea, a legume of agronomic interest with a 2n = 16 karyotype composed of metacentric chromosomes, were analyzed using several cytogenetic techniques. C-banding revealed heterochromatic regions around the centromeres in all chromosomes and adjacent to the secondary constriction on the chromosome 1 short arm. Fluorescent staining with the GC-specific chromomycin A3 (CMA) highlighted these heterochromatic regions and a tiny site on the chromosome 1 long arm while the AT-specific stain 4'-6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) induced a reversed pattern. Staining with CMA combined with AT-specific distamycin A (DA) counterstaining quenched the pericentromeric regions of all chromosomes, but enhanced fluorescence was observed at the...

Cytogenetic analysis of three species of Pseudacteon (Diptera, Phoridae) parasitoids of the fire ants using standard and molecular techniques Genet. Mol. Biol.
Chirino,Mónica G.; Folgarait,Patricia J.; Gilbert,Lawrence E.; Lanzavecchia,Silvia; Papeschi,Alba G..
Pseudacteon flies, parasitoids of worker ants, are being intensively studied as potentially effective agents in the biological control of the invasive pest fire ant genus Solenopsis (Hymenoptera: Formicidae). This is the first attempt to describe the karyotype of P. curvatus Borgmeier, P. nocens Borgmeier and P. tricuspis Borgmeier. The three species possess 2n = 6; chromosomes I and II were metacentric in the three species, but chromosome pair III was subtelocentric in P. curvatus and P. tricuspis, and telocentric in P. nocens. All three species possess a C positive band in chromosome II, lack C positive heterochromatin on chromosome I, and are mostly differentiated with respect to chromosome III. P. curvatus and P. tricuspis possess a C positive band,...

Comparative cytogenetic analysis in Erythrolamprus snakes (Serpentes: Dipsadidae) from Argentina Anais da ABC (AABC)
FALCIONE,CAMILA; HERNANDO,ALEJANDRA; BRESSA,MARÍA JOSÉ.
ABSTRACT We described the karyotypes of five snake taxa from Argentina: Erythrolamprus almadensis, E. ceii, E. poecilogyrus caesius, E. p. schotti and E. p. sublineatus, and also intergrading individuals between the last two subspecies by conventional staining, chromosome bandings and fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) with 28S ribosomal DNA probes. Erythrolamprus ceii and E. almadensis share a diploid chromosome number of 2n= 28, whereas in E. poecilogyrus intraspecific variations were observed: E. p. caesius has 2n= 28, E. p. schotti and E. p. sublineatus as well as in the intergrading individuals have 2n= 32. In E. almadensis and E. p. caesius, the 2nd and 6th chromosome pairs respectively are heteromorphic by size, morphology and C-banding...
