Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of applying N sources to leaves and N rates to the soil on the growth, N uptake, and grain and crude protein yields of the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) crop. Three experiments - two irrigated and one rainfed - were conducted during the 2012/2013 agricultural season, in a randomized complete block design with four replicates. The treatments consisted of the application of: four N rates (0, 45, 90, and 180 kg ha-1) to the soil, as topdressing in the V4 stage; and five N sources/rates - i.e., control, without foliar N application; 2.5 kg ha-1 N as conventional urea (N-CU); 5.0 kg ha-1 N-CU; 2.5 kg ha-1 N as slow-release urea-formaldehyde (N-SR); and 5.0 kg ha-1 N-SR - to leaves, in the R5... |

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of magnesium foliar spray on yield performance of soybean (Glycine max) and corn (Zea mays) cultivated in soil with adequate levels of base saturation and magnesium content in Brazil. The field trials were conducted on a Typic Hapludox cultivated with soybean and corn in the 2013/2014 and 2014/2015 crop seasons, respectively. Treatments consisted of Mg rates (50, 100, 250, 500, 1,000 and 1,500 g ha-1 and a control without Mg) applied during the V4, R1, and R5.1 (soybean) or V4 and R2 (corn) phenological growth stages as magnesium sulfate heptahydrate (MgSO4∙7H2O). The SPAD index, leaf Mg content, grain yield, and 100-grain weight were evaluated. The Mg foliar spray increased the SPAD index in... |

The genotypic variability in molybdenum (Mo) accumulation in common bean seeds has been demonstrated in cases in which soil is the main Mo source, but this variability is yet unknown when Mo is foliar-applied. Therefore, seed Mo concentrations (SMoCc) and seed Mo contents (SMoCt) of 12 genotypes were determined in four experiments in the Zona da Mata, Minas Gerais, Brazil, in which plants were sprayed with 600 g ha-1 Mo. For comparison, two additional experiments without external Mo were conducted. Without Mo application, the average SMoCc was undetectable or 2.83 µg g-1, without significant differences among genotypes. On average, with Mo applications, SMoCc ranged from 14.7 to 25.0 µg g-1 and SMoCt, from 3.94 to 6.84 µg. 'Majestoso' was among the... |

Abstract In order to evaluate the effect of a growth promoter on the productivity performance and seed-quality in bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) crops, two experiments were carried out, one in the field and under controlled conditions. In the field experiments, a Latin square design was used for four treatments as follows: control, 0.5, 0.8 and 1.0 l.ha-1, respectively, where yield components were evaluated. The seeds used in the controlled conditions experiment were from prior trials, in a totally randomized design, at the dosages above mentioned. Seed germination and seedling growth were evaluated. In the field experiments, the product had a stimulating effect on the production. The highest yields were reached with the 0.8 and 1.0 l.ha-1 dosages in number... |

Wheat is grown in Brazil, mostly in no-till, a system in which the zinc can become potentially deficient, due to excessive application of acidity corrective and phosphate fertilizers in surface and, or at shallow depths. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of foliar application of zinc in agronomic characteristics and yield of wheat. The experimental design was randomized blocks with five replications. Treatments consisted of four doses of zinc (0, 54, 108 and 216g ha-1 Zn), divided into two foliar applications, the first at tillering (18 days after plant emergence) and the second at the boot stage (65 days after emergence). Foliar application of zinc increased the number of fertile tillers and yield of wheat, however, have little effect on the... |
