Anatomy of the Nervous of Forearm and Hand of Cebus libidinosus (Rylands, 2000) International Journal of Morphology
Marin,Kliver Antonio; Silva,Frederico Ozanan Carneiro e; Carvalho,Adryano Augustto Valladão de; do Nascimento,Guilherme Nobre Lima; do Prado,Yandra Cássia Lobato; Aversi-Ferreira,Tales Alexandre.
The knowledge on the macroscopic internal structure of Cebus will provide data for histological and biochemical studies and too will contribute to ethological studies. Behavior, memory, use of tools and encephalization index have put the Cebus genus near to chimpanzees in relation to these aspects. The objective of this study is to characterize the nervous model of the forearm and hand of the Cebus monkey. For this, the main nerves and their branches located in the forearm and hand of the Cebus monkey were anatomically characterized, taking into consideration their frequency, number, origin and distribution. The data were compared with the same nerves found in specialized literature in humans, also specialized in other non-human primates. In this study, 7...

Multiple Variations of Extensor Muscles of Forearm in Relation to the Radial Nerve: a Case Report and Review International Journal of Morphology
Prakash,; Rai,Rajalakshmi; Ranade,Anu Vinod; Prabhu,Latha V; Pai,Mangala M; Gajendra,Singh.
During routine dissection in the Department of Anatomy, multiple variations of forearm muscles in relation to the radial nerve and its branches were observed on the right side of a 34 year old male cadaver. Brachioradialis close to its origin was receiving muscle fibers from the brachialis and the radial nerve was passing in between them. Extensor carpi radialis brevis was absent and the extensor carpi radialis longus was giving two tendons in the second compartment of extensor retinaculum before its insertion while passing deep to the abductor pollicis longus. Absence of extensor carpi radialis brevis can be explained with the arrangement in lower mammals, where the two extensores carpi radiales are represented by one muscle. Ontogeny repeats phylogeny...

Radiological Investigation and Clinical Evaluation of the Morphometric Development of the Forearm in Human Fetuses International Journal of Morphology
Desdicioglu,Raziye; Uguz,Ceren; Desdicioglu,Kadir; Sulak,Osman; Malas,Mehmet Ali.
Fetal period of time during which the fetus grows rapidly and the organs are formed. The prenatal and postnatal analyses of the fetal structure provide information as to fetal growth, growth retardation, gestational age and congenital malformations. The development of the skeletal system during the intrauterine period takes place in an orderly manner as it also does in other systems. It was aimed that the morphometric development of the forearm in human fetuses during the period between 20-40 gestational weeks be radiologically investigated and that its clinical importance be evaluated, as well. A total of 100 fetal forearms (50 fetuses: 23 male, 27 female), the ages of which varied between 20-40 gestational weeks, without having any external pathology or...

Comparative Anatomical Description of Forearm and Hand Arteries of Cebus libidinosus International Journal of Morphology
Aversi-Ferreira,Tales Alexandre.
Recent data justify the insertion of Cebus on behavioral and evolutionary studies in relation to the human specie, reason why researches on behavior, memory, use of tools and encephalic index demonstrate that Cebus and chimpanzees are similar. Comparative anatomical studies between Cebus and chimpanzees based on anatomical data corroborate these data on evolutionary convergence associated to muscles, nerves and vessels of the thoracic members; however, the anatomy of the forearm and hand vessels has not yet been investigated in last years. The forearm and hand arteries of Cebus are identical to other here studied primates; however, the paknaris arch, which is only one in Cebus and baboons, and princeps pollicis artery, which originated from the paknaris...

Incidence of Palmaris Longus Muscle Absence in Nigerian Population International Journal of Morphology
Kayode A,Oluyemi; Olamide A,Adesanya; Blessing I,Odion; Víctor O,Ukwenya.
Alot has been reported about variation of palmaris longus muscle in journals and conventional textbooks. The incidence of palmaris longus muscle absence among people of the six geo-political zones of Nigeria was evaluated using 600 subjects. 31.25% (187 subjects) lack palmaris longus muscleon either of the forearms. 12.5% (75 subjects) shows unilateral absence and 18.75% (112 subjects) shows bilateral absence. 25% (150) of subjects lacks palmaris longus muscleon their right forearms while 25% also lacks it on their left forearms. 6% (37) shows double tendons of palmaris longus muscleon both forearms. Highest incidence of absence was recorded among people of South-West zone.

Mobility of the forearm in the raccoon (Procyon lotor), raccoon dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides) and red panda (Ailurus fulgens) OAK

The ranges of pronation/supination of forearms in raccoons, raccoon dogs and red pandas were nondestructively examined. Three carcasses of each species were used for CT analysis, and the left forearms were scanned with a CT scanner in two positions: maximal supination and maximal pronation. Scanning data were reconstructed into three-dimensional images, cross-sectional images were extracted at the position that shows the largest area in the distal part of ulna, and then, the centroids of each cross section of the radius and ulna were detected. CT images of two positions were superimposed, by overlapping the outlines of each ulna, and then, the centroids were connected by lines to measure the angle of rotation, as an index of range of mobility. The...
