Recent invasion of the Japanese oyster drill along the French Atlantic coast: identification of specific molecular markers that differentiate Japanese, Ocinebrellus inornatus, and European, Ocenebra erinacea, oyster drills ArchiMer
Garcia Meunier, Pascale; Martel, Corine; Pigeot, Jacques; Chevalier, Guillemette; Blanchard, Gérard; Goulletquer, Philippe; Robert, Stephane; Sauriau, Pierre-guy.
The direct amplification of length polymorphism technique (DALP) has been used to distinguish species-specific banding patterns in two marine gastropod oyster drills Ocenebra erinacea (Linnaeus, 1758) and Ocinebrellus inornatus (Recluz, 1851). Ocenebra erinacea is the European oyster drill, common along all European coasts. Ocinebrellus inornatus, the Japanese oyster drill, was recorded in oyster growing areas of the Marennes-Oleron Bay (SW France) for the first time in 1995. This new biological invasion could lead to an increase, which must be evaluated, in the predation risk for cultivated species i.e. oysters and blue mussels, and for littoral fishing resources along the French Atlantic coasts. As a result, since specific identification of early life...

Surges, atmospheric pressure and wind change and flooding probability on the Atlantic coast of France ArchiMer
Pirazzoli, Paolo Antonio.
A statistical study of hourly tide-gauge records at Saint-Gildas, Saint-Nazaire, Port Tudy, Brest, Le Conquet and Roscoff, as well of three-hourly wind and air pressure records at Belie lie and Ouessant over the last 50 years, has made possible the definition of the main meteorological factors which are associated with the development of positive or negative surges. Recent changes in these meteorological factors indicate that atmospheric depressions and strong surge winds are becoming less frequent and that the ongoing trends of climate variability show a decrease in the frequency and hence the gravity of coastal flooding. However the highest sea surges of the last decades did not occur at the time of spring high tide. There is a significant statistical...

Spatial and temporal variability of CO2 fluxes at the sediment-air interface in a tidal flat of a temperate lagoon (arcachon bay, France) ArchiMer
Migne, Aline; Davoult, Dominique; Spilmont, Nicolas; Ouisse, Vincent; Boucher, Guy.
This study aimed to explore the spatial and temporal variability of benthic metabolism in a temperate mesotidal lagoon. This was achieved by measuring fluxes of CO2 in static chambers during emersion, both under light and dark conditions. Three sample sites were selected according to their tidal level (upper or mid), their sediment type (sand or mud) and the presence/absence of the seagrass Zostera noltei. The three sites were investigated at three seasons (end of winter, spring and beginning of autumn). At each site and each season, three benthic chambers were used simultaneously in successive incubations over the emersion period. The sediment chlorophyll-a content varied seasonally in the upper sands (reaching 283 mg.m− 2 in spring) but not in the mid...
