Considering most children spend a majority of their weekdays at school and, on average, obtain more than one-third of their daily caloric intake from meals consumed at school during the school year, school is a natural place to implement nutrition policies that would help develop healthy eating habits and improve health and well-being of children. At the same time, local school meal policies may influence what foods are offered and how the foods are prepared. In many countries, consumption of fruits and vegetables (F&V) is below recommended levels. We quantify the economic and health effects of F&V stamp policy designed for low income consumers. The analysis combined two models: an economic model which predicts how F&V consumption is affected by a change in policy and a health model which evaluates the impact of a change in F&V consumption in terms of death avoided (DA) and life-years saved (LYS). Finally we computed the costs per DA and LYS as the ratio between the taxpayer cost of the policy and the number of DA and LYS. Will Eating More Vegetables Trim Our Body Weight? AgEcon

The purpose of the study is to examine the dietary consequences of greater consumption of vegetables by type and source. Dietary outcomes include calorie intake, USDA’s healthy eating index (HEI) scores, and intakes of fiber and sodium. We fit a fixed-effects model with two-day intake data from the 2003-4 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Our results suggest that the effect of vegetable consumption on diet varies greatly by type of vegetables and where the food is prepared. As stated in the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, ―Eating [vegetables and fruits] instead of higher calorie foods can help adults and children achieve and maintain a healthy weight. Since 1995, the Barcelona Process aims to establish a free trade area between Mediterranean countries by 2010. The most commercialized products from Mediterranean countries are fruit and vegetables. The agreement defines, only for some products, preferences at the entrance of the EU market, limited concession for each partner for single products, limited quantities and calendars. This work tries to analyse the impact of the liberalization on the Italian products applying a gravity model in order to asses the Italian import flows from eight Mediterranean countries which signed the Barcelona agreement.
