The gamma-Weibull distribution revisited 42
Pogány,Tibor k.; Saxena,Ram k..
The five parameter gamma-Weibull distribution has been introduced by Leipnik and Pearce (2004). Nadarajah and Kotz (2007) have simplified it into four parameter form, using hypergeometric functions in some special cases. We show that the probability distribution function, all moments of positive order and the characteristic function of gamma-Weibull distribution of a random variable can be explicitely expressed in terms of the incomplete confluent Fox-Wright Psi-function, which is recently introduced by Srivastava and Pogány (2007). In the same time, we generalize certain results by Nadarajah and Kotz that follow as special cases of our findings.

Revisiting the critical values of the Lilliefors test: towards the correct agrometeorological use of the Kolmogorov-Smirnov framework 53
Blain,Gabriel Constantino.
Several studies have applied the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test (KS) to verify if a particular parametric distribution can be used to assess the probability of occurrence of a given agrometeorological variable. However, when this test is applied to the same data sample from which the distribution parameters have been estimated, it leads to a high probability of failure to reject a false null hypothesis. Although the Lilliefors test had been proposed to remedy this drawback, several studies still use the KS test even when the requirement of independence between the data and the estimated parameters is not met. Aiming at stimulating the use of the Lilliefors test, we revisited the critical values of the Lilliefors test for both gamma (gam) and normal distributions,...

Estimation of climatological water deficit in an experimental watershed in the brazilian cerrado 70
GOTARDO,JACKELINE T.; RODRIGUES,LINEU N.; GOMES,BENEDITO M..
ABSTRACT This study aimed to estimate the probability of climatological water deficit in an experimental watershed in the Cerrado biome, located in the central plateau of Brazil. For that, it was used a time series of 31 years (1982–2012). The probable climatological water deficit was calculated by the difference between rainfall and probable reference evapotranspiration, on a decennial scale. The reference evapotranspiration (ET0) was estimated by the standard FAO-56 Penman-Monteith method. To estimate water deficit, it was used gamma distribution, time series of rainfall and reference evapotranspiration. The adherence of the estimated probabilities to the observed data was verified by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov nonparametric test, with significance level...

Forecasting Demand for Rural Electric Cooperative Call Center 31
Kim, Taeyoon; Kenkel, Philip L.; Brorsen, B. Wade.
This research forecasts peak call volume to allow a centralized call center to minimize staffing costs. A Gaussian copula is used to capture the dependence among nonnormal distributions. Peak call volume can be easily and more accurately predicted using the marginal probability distribution with the copula function than without using a copula. The modeling approach allows simulating adding another cooperative. Ignoring the dependence that the copula includes, causes peak values to be underestimated.
