Endoscopy was performed in sixteen animals, 14 dogs and two cats, with esophageal foreign bodies, referred to the Surgery Department of the School of Veterinary Medicine (University of São Paulo) and to a private diagnosis center in the city of São Paulo. The location, nature, texture and shape of the foreign bodies were assessed to determine the possibility of removal, as well as condition of the esophageal mucosa. Based on the results, it was concluded that esophageal endoscopy is a complement to the radiological diagnosis of foreign bodies. Their endoscopic removal was a practical and safe procedure, sometimes avoiding the need for a surgical intervention. |
