Genome mapping in shellfish aquaculture species ArchiMer
Lapegue, Sylvie.
The development of fish and shellfish farming is facing several challenges linked to the infancy of the industry: i.e. domestication, genetic improvement of disease resistance, genetic improvement of feed efficiency to fish meal and fish oil substitution by vegetal products, development of adapted vaccines, supply of fry or spat at high quality and high robustness, adaptation to environmental change, production of healthy, high quality consumer products and limitation of environmental impact of the activity and escapees. Over recent years, the EU and individual countries have supported the development of genomic tools for some aquaculture species (e.g. rainbow trout, sea bass, sea bream, turbot pacific oyster, Atlantic salmon). New perspectives arise...

Review and practical use of genome mapping in aquacultured organisms. Position paper by the Working Group on the Application of Genetics in Fisheries and Mariculture (WGAGFM) ArchiMer
Boudry, Pierre; Lapegue, Sylvie; Guyomard, R..
The Working Group on the Application of Genetics in Fisheries and Mariculture (WGAGFM) met in La Rochelle, France from 10-12 March, 2003. Seven persons representing six countries were present. Three terms of reference (ToR) were addressed, while one was deferred until the appropriate information was available for review. WGAGFM first considered ToR a) Review and report on the practical use of genome mapping in aquacultured organisms. Genome maps are used extensively in the production of selected strains of agriculture plants and livestock. Studies on the genome of aquatic animais have been summarised in the WG report. Genome mapping projects in aquaculture exist for most major species and linkage maps are now becoming available. WGAGFM produced four...

Advances in apple culture worldwide Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Robinson,Terence.
Over the last 60 years, planting densities for apple have increased as improved management systems have been developed. Dwarfing rootstocks have been the key to the dramatic changes in tree size, spacing and early production. The Malling series of dwarfing rootstocks (M.9 and M.26) have been the most important dwarfing rootstocks in the world but are poorly adapted in some areas of the world and they are susceptible to the bacterial disease fire blight and the soil disease complex, apple replant disease which limits their uses in some areas. Rootstock breeding programs in several parts of the world are developing improved rootstocks with resistance to fire blight, and replant disease, and improved cold hardiness and yield efficiency. A second important...
