Yield and quality of wilted sweet potato vines and its silages Horticultura Brasileira
Pedrosa,Carlos E; Andrade Júnior,Valter C; Pereira,Rosana C; Dornas,Marcus FS; Azevedo,Alcinei M; Ferreira,Marcos AM.
Sweet potato is widely used for human consumption, but has also potential for its use in animal feeding. In this study we evaluated yield and quality as forage of wilted vines of various sweet potato genotypes and selected the most suitable for silage. Fifteen genotypes were evaluated (BD-31TO, BD-26, BD-13, BD-17, BD-22, BD-24, BD-54, BD-56, BD-69, BD-43, BD-44, BD-46, BD-52, BD-35, and cultivar Brazlândia Rosada), in a randomized complete blocks design, with three replications. At harvest we determined the yield of fresh matter and subsequently dry matter of vines. After 190 days of ensilage, we determined the concentrations of dry matter, crude protein, neutral and acid detergent fiber, lignin, ash, soluble carbohydrates in both vines and its silages;...

Productivity and quality of Formosa and Solo papaya over two harvest seasons PAB
Barros,Fabíola Lacerda de Souza; Kuhlcamp,Karin Tesch; Arantes,Sara Dousseau; Moreira,Sarah Ola.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the productivity and quality of papaya fruits (Carica papaya) of the Solo (12 genotypes) and Formosa (9 genotypes) heterotic groups over two harvest seasons. The experiment was conducted under field conditions in the municipality of Pinheiros, in the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil, in a randomized complete block design. Ten morpho-agronomic and physicochemical variables of the fruits were measured in winter (210-300 days after planting) and summer (450-540 days after planting). The data were subjected to the combined analysis of variance, to the breakdown of the genotype x environment interactions, and to the grouping of means by the Scott-Knott test. Although harvest season affected the evaluated...

Genetic and environmental contributions to increased wheat yield in Minas Gerais, Brazil Scientia Agricola
Cargnin,Adeliano; Souza,Moacil Alves de; Fronza,Vanoli; Fogaça,Cláudia Martellet.
Producers need wheat cultivars adapted to the predominant climate conditions of the end of the rainy period. Having this in mind, EPAMIG (Agriculture and Livestock Research Institute of Minas Gerais) has been developing a wheat genetic improvement program since 1976, and the estimates of the genetic improvement established by the breeding programs could be useful to quantify their efficiency. This study focused on the quantification of the genetic progress achieved by these improvement programs of dryland wheat in the Brazilian-savanna between 1976 and 2005. The efficiency of these programs was evaluated based on grain yield data of VCU (Value for Cultivation and Use) trials conducted at ten locations in the Minas Gerais State, Brazil. The mean estimated...
