Santos, Esmael Lopes dos; Fundação de Apoio à Pesquisa e ao Desenvolvimento do Agronegócio; Garbuglio, Deoclécio Domingos; Instituto Agronômico do Paraná; Araújo, Pedro Mário de; Instituto Agronômico do Paraná; Gerage, Antonio Carlos; Instituto Agronômico do Paraná; Shioga, Pedro Sentaro; Instituto Agronômico do Paraná; Prete, Cássio Egidio Cavenaghi; Universidade Estadual de Londrina.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of 15 maize cultivars in seven locations in Paraná State, Brazil. Towards this aim, grain yield trials were conducted during two crop seasons, and centroid (multivariate) and bissegmented regression (univariate) methods were used to evaluate possible divergences among results obtained. The genotypes were evaluated in randomized complete blocks with three replications. The centroid method was effective for indicating productive potential of genotypes, allowing for classification of genotype adaptability and stability. Values of probability above 0.40 allowed more reliable genotype classification for both adaptability and stability. The STRIKE genotype presented wide adaptability and stability by...

Root distribution and its association with bean growth habit 42
VELHO,LUIS P.S.; MELO,RITA C. DE; BERNARDY,JOÃO PEDRO F.; GRIGOLO,SIBILA; GUIDOLIN,ALTAMIR F.; COIMBRA,JEFFERSON L.M..
ABSTRACT Associations between root distribution and bean growth habit may contribute to the selection of genotypes adapted to restrictive environments. The present work aimed to relate and compare root distribution with the growth habit in beans. 10 bean genotypes of different growth habits (I, II and III) were evaluated for root distribution in two agricultural years (2014/15 and 2015/16). The genotypes responded similarly for the trait root distribution throughout the agricultural years, without any simple effect of the genotype x year interaction. The factors genotype and years were significant for the trait. The genotypes of a determinate habit showed significant differences compared to other genotypes (II and III), which were ascribed to their poor...

Gene flow and local adaptation: Antagonistic forces shape populations of Ilex dumosa (Aquifoliaceae) 51
Coulleri,Juan Pablo.
The evolutionary forces acting in a set of populations may vary in space, resulting in Genotype x Environment interaction for Darwinian fitness, fixing in some populations adaptative traits of a local population to a specific environmental conditions or, by gene flow homogenize the genes frequencies and make a set of population adapted to a group of environments. This paper tries to elucidate the population dynamics of a set of populations of Ilex dumosa Reiss., in which was measured quantitative traits of six populations from six geographic regions and test their responses to environmental changes. The experimental approach was made in common garden experiment and by reciprocal transplant experiment. Local adaptation was investigated both by native...

Cargnelutti Filho,Alberto; Guadagnin,José Paulo.
ABSTRACT: The objective of this study was to determine the necessary number of experiments to analyze the adaptability and stability of maize cultivars (Zea mays L.) using the Lin and Binns method. Grain yield data extracted from 63 maize cultivar trials were used. Trials were divided in six groups of experiments, according to the cycle (early and super early) and the agricultural year (2002/2003, 2003/2004, and 2004/2005). In each group, from the set of all experiments (reference file) new data files were formed by combinations in groups of 2, 3, 4, ..., n-1 experiments, with a total of 10,683 files. For each file, the estimation of the adaptability and stability parameter (Pi) of the Lin and Binns method was calculated. To verify the degree of...

Combining ability of tropical maize cultivars in organic and conventional production systems 65
Oliveira,Lucimar Rodrigues de; Miranda,Glauco Vieira; DeLima,Rodrigo Oliveira; Souza,Leandro Vagno de; Galvão,João Carlos Cardoso; Santos,Izabel Cristina dos.
The objectives were to identify maize germplasm for the organic productions system and to compare the genetic effects of the grain yield of maize cultivars in organic and conventional production systems. Diallel crosses were made between six maize cultivars and the hybrid combinations were evaluated in conventional and organic production systems. The hybrid combinations produced different grain yields in the two production systems. The interaction between general combining ability and production systems was significant for grain yield, ear height and number of ears. This indicates that the additive genetic effects differ in organic and conventional production systems. The specific combining abilities (SCA) were significant for grain yield and plant height,...

Epistasis and genotype-by-environment interaction of grain protein content in durum wheat 74
Bnejdi,Fethi; Gazzah,Mohamed El.
Parental, F1, F2, BC1 and BC2 generations of four crosses involving four cultivars of durum wheat (Triticum durum Desf.) were evaluated at two sites in Tunisia. A three-parameter model was found inadequate for all cases except crosses Chili x Cocorit 71 at site Sidi Thabet and Inrat 69 x Karim at both sites. In most cases a digenic epistatic model was sufficient to explain variation in generation means. Dominance effects (h) and additive x additive epistasis (i) (when significant) were more important than additive (d) effects and other epistatic components. Considering the genotype-by-environment interaction, the non-interactive model (m, d, h, e) was found adequate. Additive variance was higher than environmental variance in three crosses at both sites....

Natural selection and family X location interaction in the common (dry) bean plant 74
Pirola,Luís Henrique; Ramalho,Magno Antonio Patto; Carneiro,José Eustáquio S.; Abreu,Ângela de Fátima Barbosa.
Natural selection takes place while advancing generations of segregant populations of self pollinating species by the population (bulk) method. There is evidence that it maintains the individuals with greater grain yield. The question arises whether natural selection preserves the individuals which are more adapted only to the environment where the generation advance occurred, that is, if it contributes to increasing the genotype x environment interaction in the family assessment. This study was carried out to check this hypothesis in the common bean plant using families derived from a segregating population from a cross between the Carioca MG x ESAL 686 cultivars. The segregating populations increase in homozygosity was obtained by the population (bulk)...

Estimates of heritability and genotype-environment interactions for body weight in sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax L.) raised under communal rearing conditions 5
Saillant, Eric; Dupont Nivet, Mathilde; Haffray, Pierrick; Chatain, Beatrice.
Genetic parameters for somatic growth rate in sea bass were estimated in two experiments where 27 (year-class 1997) to 30 (year-class 1998) families of sea bass (3 dams mated with 9-10 sires according to a full factorial design) were raised mixed in the same tanks starting shortly before hatching (48 h post fertilization). Trials were performed under two temperature (experiment 1, 1997: group high temperature (HT) and group low temperature (LT)) and two density regimes (experiment 2, 1998: group high density (HD) and group low density (LD)) with a subset of the mating design (18 families) being reproduced in the two experiments. All the fish were genotyped at 3-6 microsatellite loci which allowed them to be assigned to the individual breeders used in the...

Silva,Gabi Nunes; Silva Júnior,Antônio Carlos da; Sant’Anna,Isabela de Castro; Cruz,Cosme Damião; Nascimento,Moysés; Soares,Plínio César.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the similarity network graphic methodology for the classification of flood-irrigated rice (Orzya sativa) genotypes regarding their adaptability and stability. Two statistical measures were used to represent the proximity of the behavior (based on Pearson’s correlation) or values (based on Gower’s distance) between pairs of genotypes or between genotype and environment. Productivity data of 18 genotypes were evaluated in three locations in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, in the harvests of 2012/2013, 2013/2014, 2014/2015, and 2015/2016, in a randomized complete block design. The genotypes were previously assessed for adaptability and stability by the Eberhart & Russell and centroid methods. The...
