Detection of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) compounds in artificial sea-water using surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) ArchiMer
Peron, Olivier; Rinnert, Emmanuel; Lehaitre, Michel; Crassous, Philippe; Compere, Chantal.
This paper reports an accurate synthesis of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) active substrates, based on gold colloidal monolayer, suitable for in situ environmental analysis. Quartz substrates were functionalized by silanization with (3-mercaptopropyl)trimethoxysilane (MPMS) or (3-aminopropyl)trimethoxysilane (APTMS) and they subsequently reacted with colloidal suspension of gold metal nanoparticles: respectively, the functional groups SH and NH2 bound gold nanoparticles. Gold nanoparticles were prepared by the chemical reduction of HAuCl4 using sodium tricitrate and immobilized onto silanized quartz substrates. Active substrate surface morphology was characterized with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) measurements and gold nanoparticles...

Surface enhanced infrared absorption (SEIRA) spectroscopy using gold nanoparticles on As2S3 glass ArchiMer
Verger, F.; Pain, T.; Nazabal, V.; Boussard-pledel, C.; Bureau, Bruno; Colas, Florent; Rinnert, Emmanuel; Boukerma, Kada; Compere, Chantal; Guilloux-viry, M.; Deputier, S.; Perrin, A.; Guin, J. P..
The development of infrared sensing platform requires adapted materials. In this work, we used sputtered gold nanoparticles on a chalcogenide glass to demonstrate that these infrared materials can be used as substrate for surface enhanced infrared absorption (SEIRA) spectroscopy. The sputtering parameters were optimized to get the highest possible enhancement. To assess it, a self-assembled monolayer of 4-nitrothiophenol was used. These preliminary results are promising and pave the way for various configurations of waveguide for integrated optical components. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

An insight on the role of photosensitizer nanocarriers for Photodynamic Therapy Anais da ABC (AABC)
MESQUITA,MARIANA Q.; DIAS,CRISTINA J.; GAMELAS,SARA; FARDILHA,MARGARIDA; NEVES,MARIA G.P.M.S.; FAUSTINO,MARIA AMPARO F..
ABSTRACT Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a modality of cancer treatment in which tumor cells are destroyed by reactive oxygen species (ROS) produced by photosensitizers following its activation with visible or near infrared light. The PDT success is dependent on different factors namely on the efficiency of the photosensitizer deliver and targeting ability. In this review a special attention will be given to the role of some drug delivery systems to improve the efficiency of tetrapyrrolic photosensitizers to this type of treatment.

Dendritic Gold Nanoparticles Towards Transparent and Electroactive Electrodes Anais da ABC (AABC)
IOST,RODRIGO M.; MARTINS,MARCCUS V.A.; CRESPILHO,FRANK N..
Abstract: The combination of UV-visible absorption and electrochemical experiments (spectroelectrochemistry) enables to obtain highly specific spectroscopic information (in situ and operando) from modified surfaces. However, such application can be limited by the self-absorbance, for example, when metallic nanoparticles are present on modified surfaces. Indium-tin oxide onto glass (ITO) is a typical electrode commonly used for spectroelectrochemistry; ITO is an oxide-based semiconductor, and in numerous applications it is necessary to promote the modification of the electrode surface without significant loss of transparency. Here, we report a simple strategy to obtain ITO electrodes modified with self-assembled polyelectrolytes and active dendritic gold...

ABSTRACT Paper-based devices present low-cost and are versatile, making them very attractive for clinical analysis. To manufacture those devices wax patterns are printed on paper surface and upon heating the wax permeates through the entire thickness of the paper, creating hydrophobic barriers that delimit test areas. Antibodies produced in rabbits against canine distemper virus (CDV) were physically adsorbed on the surface of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and incubated with CDV viral antigens, forming the immunocomplex. Anti-CDV antibodies were immobilized into the microchannels by physical adsorption, forming the test region. The test solution containing conjugated AuNPs was applied at the bottom of the microchannel and it was eluted with a phosphate buffer...

The need for eco-friendly and cost effective methods for nanoparticles synthesis is developing interest in biological approaches which are free from the use of toxic chemicals as byproducts. This study aimed to biosynthesize and optimize the size of gold nanoparticles which produced by biotechnological method using Penicillium crustosum isolated from soil. Initially, Penicillium crustosum was grown in fluid czapek dox broth on shaker at 28 ºC and 200 rpm for ten days and then the supernatant was separated from the mycelia to convert AuCl4 solution into gold nanoparticles. The synthesized nanoparticles in the optimum conditions were formed with fairly well-defined dimensions and good monodispersity. The characterizations were done by using different methods...
