Isolation and Selection of Epiphytic Yeast for Biocontrol of Botrytis cinerea Pers. on Table Grapes Chilean J. Agric. Res.
Vargas,Marisol; Garrido,Felipe; Zapata,Nelson; Tapia,Maritza.
Botrytis cinerea Pers., the causal agent of gray mold, infects more than 200 plant species. This pathogen has traditionally been controlled by fungicides. However, with the increasing demand for pesticide-free foods new control strategies are needed. The objective of this study was to isolate and select grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) epiphytic yeasts for the biocontrol of B. cinerea in table grapes. Of the total isolated yeasts (n = 256), 32 exhibited mycelial growth inhibition in dual cultures with a halo > 4 mm, and eight of these isolates inhibited > 90% of conidial germination. When evaluating increasing concentrations on conidial germination inhibition, a dose-dependent response was observed with EC90 values from 0.45 x 10(5) to 0.22 x 10(8)...

Control of Botrytis cinerea in Eucalyptus globulus Mini-Cuttings Using Clonostachys and Trichoderma Strains Chilean J. Agric. Res.
Zaldúa,Salomé; Sanfuentes,Eugenio.
Botrytis cinerea Pers. ex Fr. causes the disease known as gray mold in more than 200 hosts. It is one of the most important pathogens in Chilean forest nurseries and Eucalyptus globulus Labill. is one of the most susceptible species, especially in vegetative reproduction systems. Clonostachys and Trichoderma strains were selected as potential biocontrol agents of gray mold in previous research by the authors. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of antagonistic fungi to control B. cinerea in E. globulus mini-cuttings. Five fungi strains were tested and applied weekly, two Clonostachys and three Trichoderma (5 x 10(6) conidia mL-1). In addition, comparison treatments were also used: absolute control (water) and fungicide...

Pre- and post-infection activity of new fungicides against Botrytis cinérea and other fungi causing decay of table grapes Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Serey,Ricardo A; Torres,Rene; Latorre,Bernardo A.
Pre- and post-harvest diseases restrict table grape production and exports (Vitis vinifera L.) in Chile, with the most important disease being grey mold (Botrytis cinérea). In addition, rot due to Aspergillus niger, Cladosporium herbarum, Penicillium expansum, and Rhizopus stolonifer frequently occurs. The pre- and post-infection activity of fungicides against these pathogens was studied on Thompson Seedless table grapes. Detached, mature, berries were used, and inoculations were performed with 20 µL of a 10(6) spores•mL-1 suspension placed on three punctures aseptically made at the calyx end of each berry. Fungicides used (per liter) were boscalid (600 mg), boscalid (200 mg) + pyraclostrobin (100 mg), boscalid (200 mg) + kresoxim methyl (100 mg),...

First report of Botrytis cinerea on Lilium polyphyllum, a critically endangered herb in Uttarakhand, India Phyton
Dhyani,A; Nautiyal,BP; Nautiyal,MC; Rivera,MC; Prasad,D; Singh,KP.
Lilium polyphyllum is a critically endangered herb in the wilds of Uttarakhand, India. Gray mold appeared as a new disease on this species from July to August (2008-2009) causing death of inflorescences and shoots. Botrytis cinerea was consistently isolated on PDA, from infected inflorescences. Pathogenicity was established by inoculation of potted plants of L. polyphyllum in a glasshouse. Botrytis cinerea was recorded as a gray mold pathogen on L. polyphyllum for the first time in India, causing flower and shoot blight. Tis disease may seriously afect reproductive stages of this endangered host. To our knowledge, B. cinerea had not been reported previously on L. polyphyllum.

Morphological, pathogenic and genetic diversity of Botrytis cinerea Pers. in blackberry cultivations in Colombia Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Isaza,Liliana; Zuluaga,Yenni Paola; Marulanda,Marta Leonor.
Abstract The Andean blackberry (Rubus glaucus Benth) is one of the most important fruits with the greatest commercial projection in Colombia. The factors that most affect its production are the attack of diseases and the scarce information about its control. One of the most limiting diseases of the crop is the gray mold, produced by the fungus Botrytis cinerea. This research presents the diversity of B. cinerea isolates from fields of andean blackberry in Colombia, based on the morphological, pathogenic and genetic characteristics allowing broadening the knowledge of the phytopathogen for subsequent management measures. Andean blackberry fruits were collected with characteristic symptoms of gray mold in farms located in eight producing areas of Colombian...
