Tracking the provenance of Greenland-sourced, Holocene aged, individual sand-sized ice-rafted debris using the Pb-isotope compositions of feldspars and 40Ar/39Ar ages of hornblendes ArchiMer
White, Lee F.; Bailey, Ian; Foster, Gavin L.; Allen, Georgina; Kelley, Simon P.; Andrews, John T.; Hogan, Kelly; Dowdeswell, Julian A.; Storey, Craig D..
The provenance of sand-sized ice-rafted debris (IRD) sourced from Greenland is currently difficult to determine. Such knowledge, if it could be ascertained with a high degree of certainty, could be applied to the Greenland-proximal marine records to improve both our understanding of modern-day spatial patterns of iceberg rafting and the past history of the Greenland Ice Sheet (GIS). Recent studies have highlighted the utility of the Pb-isotope composition of individual sand-sized feldspars and the Ar-40/Ar-39 ages of individual sand-sized hornblendes in this regard. However, before any such provenance toolkit can be applied to the palaeo-record, it is necessary first to determine whether this approach can be used to track the sources of known recent...

Etude preliminaire du zooplancton du Detroit de Davis. Relations trophiques entre zooplancton et poissons ArchiMer
Beaudouin, Jacqueline.
Sampling was carried out during 1970 at 22 stations from 72 degree -62 degree N; the sampling period varied from 21 minutes - 42minutes. 12 species of zooplankton were recovered consisting of specimens of copepods, euphausiids, chaetognathes, medusae, amphipods, pteropods and decapods. They were most abundant in the central zone, especially in 2 areas of maximum concentration (where the catch exceeded 100 cm super(3)) located 72 degree N and 67 degree N. Fish captured included young cod, rockfish and halibut; they were found mostly around these areas of maximum zooplankton concentrations. Only immature fish were recovered in this region; the adults had deserted these waters due to unusual and permanent low temperature water in the superficial layers.

The Polar Record Number 19 ArchiMer
This expedition was arranged on the initiative of Professor Erik Stensiö of Stockholm to collect fossil specimens for the British Museum (Natural History), the Palaeontologisk Museum, Oslo, and the Hiksmuseum , Stockholm. The chief object was to explore the Old Red Sandstone deposits in the geologically little known Wood Bay area and also in the neighbouring fjords on the north coast. The plans were given in The Polar Record, No. 18, and the final party, which was led by Professor E. A. Steusic with the support of A. Heintz of Oslo, consisted of E. Jarvik (Stockholm), G. Wangsjo (Uppsala), Sven Foyn and K. Aarhus (Oslo), X. Delle (Riga), E. I. White and W. N. Croft (London), J . A. Moy-Thomas (Oxford) and J. Brough (Manchester). C. Andreasen, a sealer from...

The ice-breaker Malyguin left Archangel on July 6, 1935, to investigate the shipping route from Cape Zhelaniya, the most northerly point of Novaya Zemlya, to Vilkitsky Strait; and from Dickson Island to Vilkitsky Strait. The work was begun off Cape Zhelaniya, whence a section was made to Einsamkeit (Lonely) Island, and two further sections in a blank space on the map to the east. [NOT CONTROLLED OCR]

A preliminary account of the Cambridge expedition which was at work during the summer of 1938 in West Spitsbergen , under the leadership of L. H. McCabe, was given in The Polar Record, No. 16. The object of the expedition was to carry out geomorphological work in continuation of W. V. Lewis's investigations in cirque development in Iceland in 1937. Six weeks were spent in the Campbell Range on the east side of Billefjorden, Klaas Billen Bay. One party then visited the Stubendorff Mountains, and another visited Gips Valley, inland from the Campbell Range. [NOT CONTROLLED OCR]

In the course of a journey to Cape Chelyuskin and back, during the late summer of 1933, a party of scientists, led by Professor W. J . Wiese, carried out a number of useful investigations, and were successful in discovering a new island. This expedition was organised by the Arctic Institute for the purpose of making hydrographic and biological investigations in the northern Kara Sea and had hoped to obtain the use of the ice-breaker Taimyr.

Deshayesitid ammonites from the lower Aptian (Lower Cretaceous) of North-East Greenland Naturalis
Kelly, S.R.A.; Whitham, A.G..
Two deshayesitid ammonite assemblages are described from the Lower Cretaceous succession of the north coast of Hold with Hope, North-East Greenland, and their biostratigraphical significance is assessed. In the earlier assemblage Prodeshayesites cf. bodei and P. laeviusculus occur. The second assemblage contains Deshayesites boegvadi. The presence of P. cf. bodei suggests that the northwest European bodei Subzone of the fissicostatus Zone is represented in North-East Greenland. The occurrence of D. boegvadi, previously recorded only from Kuhn q, probably indicates the later part of the fissicostatus Zone, or the forbesi or deshayesi zones. Other occurrences of Greenland deshayesitid ammonites are discussed briefly. The new finds from Hold with Hope are...

Palaeontological collections at the Geological Museum, University of Copenhagen: from Cabinet of Curiosities to databases Naturalis
Harper, D.A.T..
Geological collections were established in the University of Copenhagen during the early 1700s with the presentation of fossil, mineral and rock collections by Count A.G. Moltke, mainly assembled by Ole Worm (1588-1654) in his Museum Wormianum. Currently the palaeontological collections in the Geological Museum, alone, contain over 1 million specimens, including 26,000 types. The focus of the collection remains on material from Denmark and Greenland. Highlights from Greenland include evidence of early life from the Archaean Isua Complex, the early Cambrian Sirius Passet fauna, Devonian amphibians, Triassic dinosaurs, mammals and pterosaurs, Jurassic and Cretaceous ammonites together with Jurassic and Cretaceous plants. The Danish collections are dominated...
