Guatteria richardii (Annonaceae) rediscovered along with two new species from French Guiana Naturalis
Scharf, U.; Maas, P.J.M.; Morawetz, W..
For the first time, 140 years after the collection of the first specimen and 70 years after the description of Guatteria richardii R.E. Fr. from French Guiana, more specimens that are referable to this species were discovered during a taxonomic treatment for the Flora of the Guianas project, concerning Guatteria Ruiz & Pav. (Annonaceae). In addition, G. intermedia and G. montis-trinitatis, two similar species – the first widely distributed and the second endemic to the Montagne de la Trinité in French Guiana, are described as new to science.

A new species of Bocoa (Leguminosae-Swartzieae) from the Upper Essequibo region, Guyana Naturalis
Aymard C., G.A.; Ireland, H.E..
A new species, Bocoa marionii, from the Upper Essequibo region, Guyana, is described and illustrated and its relationships with allied species are discussed. It is morphologically similar to B. prouacensis, from which it differs in its chartaceous leaflets, shorter inflorescences borne among leaves, longer pedicels, calyx that is strigose along the middle of the segments internally, and ovary densely yellow-sericeous. A key to the species of Bocoa is provided.

Rock outcrop habitats in the Venezuelan Guayana lowlands: their main vegetation types and floristic components Rev. Bras. Bot.
Gröger,Andreas; Huber,Otto.
The Guayana Shield, located in north-eastern South America, consists of a highly complex and composite mosaic of landscape elements. Amongst these, inselbergs are very conspicuous, because of their peculiar shape and their unusual associated vegetation. Geologically, these rock outcrops are part of the underlying ancient igneous-metamorphic basement and occur mainly in the lowlands of the periphery of the shield. As azonal habitats, inselbergs harbour a highly specialized flora. The characteristic vegetation is composed of lithophytic and savanna-like plant communities, as well as low dry forests. As a whole, the vegetation of an inselberg may be interpreted as a mosaic of marginal habitats. Therefore a large number of taxa find suitable niches in a quite...
