Passiflora kapiriensis (Passifloraceae), a new species from French Guiana Naturalis
Rome, M.; Coppens d'Eeckenbrugge, G..
Passiflora kapiriensis is a new Guianese species in the series Laurifoliae of subgenus Passiflora, found near Saint-Georges-de-l’Oyapock. The filaments of the fourth corona row are 1 cm long and oriented to the androgynophore, which is reminiscent of P. acuminata, P. cerasina, P. fissurosa, P. killipiana and P. nitida. It differs from these close relatives by the combination of subequal first and second rows of filaments, a very short hypanthium, very long petioles, with medial nectary glands, and much larger leaves.

Three new species of Piper (Piperaceae) from the Guianas Naturalis
Görts-van Rijn, A.R.A.; Callejas Posada, R..
Three new species of Piper from the Guianas and adjacent areas are described: Piper aulacospermum Callejas, P. ciliomarginatum Görts & Christenh. and P. remotinervium Görts. The differences between P. aulacospermum and P. bartlingianum (Miq.) C.DC., both belonging to subg. Ottonia, are given as well as notes on all three species.

Studies on the species of the South American lizard genus Arthrosaura Boulenger (Reptilia: Sauria: Teiidae), with the resurrection of two species Naturalis
Hoogmoed, M.S.; Avila-Pires, T.C.S..
Arthrosaura versteegii and Pantodactylus tyleri are resurrected from the synonymy of A. reticulata. Detailed descriptions of the three species are provided, a key to the species of the genus is presented, differences are pointed out and synonymy and distribution of the known species are given. Two of the species occur sympatrically in several areas, whereas in one area three species are sympatric. The distribution of A. kockii mainly is limited to the eastern part of the Guianas, but also encompasses eastern Pará; that of A. reticulata extends from the Amazonian lowlands of Ecuador to the mouth of the Amazon and also includes the Guianas, that of A. versteegii seems to be restricted to the Guianas, whereas A. tyleri is only known from a high altitude on...

Two new species of Coussarea and a new combination in Faramea (Rubiaceae, Coussareeae) from the Guianas Naturalis
Delprete, P.G..
During the preparation of the treatment of the family Rubiaceae for the Flora of the Guianas, two new species of Coussarea were discovered. One species, Coussarea longilaciniata, was collected in Guyana and is characterized by its long-lanceolate calyx lobes; the other, C. spicata, is from French Guiana and is unique in the genus by its spicate inflorescences. In addition, Faramea sessiliflora var. pedunculata is here elevated to the species level, and a new description of F. sessiliflora is also provided in view of the re-delimitation of this species.

DNA barcoding reveals the diversity of sharks in Guyana coastal markets Neotropical Ichthyology
Kolmann,Matthew A.; Elbassiouny,Ahmed A.; Liverpool,Elford A.; Lovejoy,Nathan R..
ABSTRACT A fundamental challenge for both sustainable fisheries and biodiversity protection in the Neotropics is the accurate determination of species identity. The biodiversity of the coastal sharks of Guyana is poorly understood, but these species are subject to both artisanal fishing as well as harvesting by industrialized offshore fleets. To determine what species of sharks are frequently caught and consumed along the coastline of Guyana, we used DNA barcoding to identify market specimens. We sequenced the mitochondrial co1 gene for 132 samples collected from six markets, and compared our sequences to those available in the Barcode of Life Database (BOLD) and GenBank. Nearly 30% of the total sample diversity was represented by two species of Hammerhead...
