The comparative analysis of the effect of hermetic storage models on the quality of soybean seeds was studied. Freshly harvested soybean pods were depodded and the seeds were sundried at 330C temperature with an average relative humidity of 62% for three days. The seeds were then divided into three portions of 400g and each portion was poured into different storage models which were PVC bags of 400g, jars of one litre capacity and another jar (perforated) of one litre capacity which served as the control. The initial quality parameters of the soybean seeds were determined, while the storage models and control were kept for six weeks. Samples in each storage model and control were analysed for proximate composition and other quality parameters at the end of... |

An extensive work to determine the test weight (TW), the thousand kernel weight (TKW) and the hardness (HD) of Brazilian wheat, was undertaken for the crop years from 1990 to 1994, with the objetive of drawing the Brazilian wheat physical characteristics and their relationship with flour extraction (FE). The results showed a median TW of 78.2kg/hl, a TKW of 34.2g and the HD was graded as hard. The values varied accordingly with the crop year, the local and year vs. local. Among the locals the wheat from the MS/DF/MG/GO States showed the best results. Correlation coefficients between FE and each of the parameters, TW, TKW and HD were low but significant (P< 5.0%) and, therefore, should not be used as a direct relationship but only as an indicator of FE.... |

ABSTRACT Corn is the main energy feed used in broiler chickens rations in most countries. In the literature, there are indications that high density corn segregated in densimetric table contains higher value of metabolizable energy than the corresponding fraction of low density, but the reasons are not clear. This study was conducted to determine the metabolizable energy of different types of corn, segregated in densimetric table, for poultry. The corn types were selected by the texture of grain (flint, semi-dent and dent) and were planted in the same area. Semi-dent grain corn was used as standard, and the flint and dent grains were segregated in a densimetric table to separate 25% of the total as high density and 25% as low density. The flint, semi-dent... |
