Project Proposal for IODE: The Surface Salinity Project OceanDocs
Keeley, R..
The Ocean Observations Panel for Climate and its predecessor examined the usefulness of surface salinity data in the context of climate change detection. They stated that "At high latitude, sea surface salinity is known to be critical for decadal and longer time scale variations associated with deep ocean over turning and the hydrological cycle. In the tropics, and in particular in the western Pacific, and Indonesian Seas, and in upwelling zones salinity is also believed to be important." They quote the benchmark sampling strategy to be one sample per 200 km square every 10 days and with an accuracy of 0.1 PSU. They also state that the tropical western Pacific and Indian Oceans and high latitudes should receive the highest priority.

GOSIC: Global Observing Systems Information Center OceanDocs
Wilson, Ron; Webster, Ferris.
The distributed nature of the G3OS data and information systems is best served by a single entry for users. This central source, the Global Observing Systems Information Center (GOSIC), provides basic user services explaining the G3OS data system and providing an overview of the data and information that are available. In addition, GOSIC offers a search capability, optimized for G3OS data centers, which facilitates access to a worldwide set of observations and derived products.

The Global Ocean Observing System Data and Information Management Strategy and Plan (Third draft) OceanDocs
Wilson, J.R..
This third version of the plan has been drafted based on comments received at the GOOS SC meeting held in Beijing in April, 1999 and from the GOOS Project Office recently. There has been a major rewrite by which the document has become more of a strategy document for the development of GOOS data management. In addition to the strategies the document will contain details of the elements of the initial observing system and the participating organizations. It is intended to be a live document on-line that will continue to be a complete reference for GOOS data management.
