Substrates and time intervals of renewal of wastewater in production and post-harvest of the ornamental sunflower Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Santos Júnior,José Amilton; Gheyi,Hans Raj; Pérez-Marin,Aldrin Martin; Dias,Nildo da Silva; Guedes Filho,Doroteu Honório.
Flower production in semi-hydroponic systems is a profitable alternative for generating income in communities of small farmers in the semiarid region of Brazil. This is because such a system of cultivation relates aspects of the climate, water and soil of the region, favoring the production of crops. In this work, the use of wastewater as a source of water and nutrients was studied, renewed at four time intervals (daily and every two, three and four days), and of three growth substrates (coconut fiber, sand and sugarcane bagasse), in the production and post-harvest period of sunflowers. These treatments were distributed in a completely randomised design and analysed in a 4 x 3 factorial with three replications, giving a total of 36 experimental units. It...

Nutrient contents and production of rocket as affected by nitrogen concentrations in the nutritive solution Scientia Agricola
Cavarianni,Rodrigo Luiz; Cecílio Filho,Arthur Bernardes; Cazetta,Jairo Osvaldo; May,André; Corradi,Mariana Marotti.
Empiricism in the use of nutrient solutions is frequent. Several times the same nutrient solution is used to grow different species based only on morphological similarities. This practice may lead to nutritional imbalances, affecting not only the production but also the quality of the product due to an accumulation of nitrate. An experiment under hydroponic conditions - the NFT system - was conducted with the aim of evaluating the effect of the concentration of nitrogen in the nutrient solution on the production and on the nutrient and nitrate contents of rocket (Eruca sativa) salad leaves. The experiment was carried out in spring 2003, in a randomized block design and in a 4 x 3 factorial design, with four replicates. Four nitrogen concentrations in the...

Hydroponic Lettuce Production and Minimally Processed Lettuce CIGR Journal
de Carvalho, Ricardo Oliano; Machado, Miguel Borges; Scherer, Vinícius Saldanha; Fuentes, Giovani Castro; da Luz, Carlos Alberto Silveira; da Luz, Maria Laura G. Silva.
Lettuce is a leafy vegetable most consumed in Brazil, and is considered the basis for salads and can be grown by hydroponics system. Hydroponics is a viable alternative to be implemented, with benefits for soil conservation and preservation of water sources. This work aimed to study the market of trailers snacks in Pelotas to analyze the economic feasibility of deploying an enterprise for the production of hydroponic lettuce, minimally processed, on a farm located in the city of Pelotas. The trailers were classified as small, medium and large, according to the consumption of lettuce. From market analysis, facilities and greenhouses for hydroponics area for processing of lettuce with flowchart of activities and mass balance were designed. The lettuce is...
