ABSTRACT The procedures for a set of techniques to recover grains of pollen 26 and spores from liquid samples are described. Liquefied samples of matrices, such as melting lakes, snow and ice, can provide a record of climatic and environmental events at different geographic and temporal scales. The need for standardization of techniques was demonstrated in research carried out with matrices of snow and water of thawing lakes and snow collected on King George and Joinville islands (Antarctica). The use of the methods described can permit increased rescue of palynomorphs from liquid matrices, thereby adding greater reliability to palynological data and its use as a biotracer of environmental events. Methods of sieving and centrifugation were tested, and... |

In developed countries the milking collection is done to process in various diary plants situated far away from production areas. There is a problem of cool chain management, which, generally is absent at farm levels. To manage the cool chain in milk transportation system right from farm level it is required that some locally available techniques/materials should be selected and used for milk chilling. The objective of current study is to ascertain mechanism for chilling of milk at farm immediately after milking. The experiments were conducted and the cooling performance was evaluated by noting down the drop in temperature with respect to time using mercury thermometer. The respective regression equation and R2 value were obtained for every run of... |

The India-France SARAL/AltiKa mission is the first Ka-band altimetric mission dedicated primarily to oceanography. The mission objectives were firstly the observation of the oceanic mesoscales but also global and regional sea level monitoring, including the coastal zone, data assimilation, and operational oceanography. SARAL/AltiKa proved also to be a great opportunity for inland waters applications, for observing ice sheet or icebergs, as well as for geodetic investigations. The mission ended its nominal phase after three years in orbit and began a new phase (drifting orbit) in July 2016. The objective of this paper is to highlight some of the most remarkable achievements of the SARAL/AltiKa mission in terms of scientific applications. Compared to the... |

We present series of data describing the small-scale structure of the boundary layer stratification in the vicinity and away from a 1.5 m pressure ridge keel. We then analyze the influence of pressure ridges on the spatial and temporal variability of the ocean boundary layer Our experiment was done during the melt in order to use small-scale salinity gradients to study the variability in intensity of mixing processes. High-resolution salinity records sampled at 0+, 25 and 50 cm from the ice-water interface were analyzed at two stations, one at 5 m and the other at 75 m from a pressure ridge keel. We observed that, in the immediate vicinity of the ridge, melting is associated with the periodic development and dissipation of a melt layer in relation with the... |

A new set of tools is described for performing analyses of an ensemble of datasets that includes multiple copies of the original data with imputations of missing values, as required for the method of multiple imputation. The tools replace those originally developed by the authors. They are based on a simple data management paradigm in which the imputed datasets are all stored along with the original data in a single dataset with a vertically stacked format, as proposed by Royston in his ice and micombine commands. Stacking into a single dataset simplifies the management of the imputed datasets compared with storing them individually. Analysis and manipulation of the stacked datasets is performed with a new prefix command, mim, which can accommodate data... |

Royston, Patrick. |
Royston (2004) introduced mvis, an implementation for Stata of MICE, a method of multiple multivariate imputation of missing values under missing-at-random (MAR) assumptions. In a second article, Royston (2005) described ice, an upgrade incorporating various improvements and changes to the software based on personal experience, discussion with colleagues, and user requests. This article describes an update to ice. The changes are less substantial but nevertheless important enough to warrant a brief explanation. The major modification is that the default method of imputing missing values in ice is now by sampling from the posterior predictive distribution rather than by predicted mean matching. The ice system comprises five ado-files: ice, micombine,... |
