Análise do tamanho e distância entre fragmentos florestais na bacia hidrográfica do Rio Una Ciências Agrárias
Catelani, Celso de Souza; Batista, Getulio Teixeira.
This article characterized the forest fragments of Una River hydrographic basin, affluent of the Paraíba do Sul River. Results showed that the average mean size of all fragments is 9.06 ha and that the correlation to the circular shape is 0.68 and the mean nucleus area of fragments considering a border effect of 60m is 5.86 ha. The mean distance among them is 245m. These parameters indicate that this basin has elongated fragments, with high border effect and may be in risk of biodiversity erosion. The image showing the different size classes of fragments allowed spatial observation of critical areas of the basin in ecological sustainability risk. The computing tools proved to be useful and easy to use as long as a previous georeferenced data basis is...

Beraldo,José M. G.; Scannavino Junior,Francisco de A.; Cruvinel,Paulo E..
The study aimed to evaluate a methodology to quantify the porosity of the soil using computed tomography in areas under no-tillage, conventional tillage and native forest. Three soil management systems were selected for the study: forest, conventional tillage and no-tillage. In each soil management system, undisturbed soil samples were collected in the surface layer (0.0 to 0.10 m). The tomographic images were obtained using a X-ray microtomography. After obtaining the images, they were processed, and a methodology was evaluated for image conversion into numerical values. The statistical method which provided the greatest accuracy was the percentile method. The methodology used to analyze the tomographic image allowed quantifying the porosity of the soil...

DEVELOPMENT OF A TRANSFER FUNCTION FOR WEIGHT PREDICTION OF LIVE BROILER CHICKEN USING MACHINE VISION REA
Amraei,Somaye; Mehdizadeh,Saman A.; Nääs,Irenilza de A..
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to process digital images to investigate the possibility of broilers body weight estimation based on the dynamic model. For this experiment, 2440 images were recorded by a top-view camera from 30 birds. An ellipse fitting algorithm was applied to localize chickens within the pen, by using a generalized Hough transform. Chickens’ head and tail were removed efficiently using the Chan-Vese method. After that, using image processing, six body measures were calculated. Next, they were used to design a Transform Function (TF) model with weight measurements as output. Second-order dynamic models were used to predict the weight of life broiler chicken, without delay, stable and with the highest R2 were predominantly...

Nääs,Irenilza de A.; Laganá,Marcus; Mollo Neto,Mario; Canuto,Simone; Pereira,Danilo F..
The research proposes a methodology for assessing broiler breeder response to changes in rearing thermal environment. The continuous video recording of a flock analyzed may offer compelling evidences of thermal comfort, as well as other indications of welfare. An algorithm for classifying specific broiler breeder behavior was developed. Videos were recorded over three boxes where 30 breeders were reared. The boxes were mounted inside an environmental chamber were ambient temperature varied from cold to hot. Digital images were processed based on the number of pixels, according to their light intensity variation and binary contrast allowing a sequence of behaviors related to welfare. The system used the default of x, y coordinates, where x represents the...

Rodrigues,Tatiana P. N. da S.; Pandorfi,Héliton; Stosic,Borko; Lucena,Aline C. de; Rodrigues,Diogo F. B..
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to develop a software based on image processing and computer vision techniques for monitoring the feeding/collective behavior of broilers (Cobb) and validate it based on the results obtained from the visual analysis of an expert. The visual analysis was performed based on the observation and quantification of behaviors in the interval of 10 min at each hour of the day, in the period of 24 hours, totaling 1728 frames/day, for males and females. The software was developed using the Hoshen-Kopelman algorithm, for labeling clusters, which would basically be the grouping of similar pixels. This software is written in the 1999 standard of the C language. After this stage of programming, the Hoshen-Kopelman algorithm...

Nonlinear correlation by using invariant identity vectors signatures to identify plankton Gayana
Fimbres-Castro,Claudia; Álvarez-Borrego,Josué; Vázquez-Martínez,Irene; Espinoza-Carreón,T. Leticia; Ulloa-Pérez,A. Elsi; Bueno-Ibarra,Mario A.
In this paper a new methodology to recognize radk>larians is presented. This system is invariant to position, rotation and scale by using identity vectors signatures (Is) obtained for both the target and the problem image. In this application, / is obtained by means of a simplification of the main features of the original image in addition of the properties of the Fourier transform. Identity vectors signatures are compared using nonlinear correlation. This new methodology recognizes objects in a more simple way. It has a low computational cost of approximately 0.02 s per image. In addition, the statistics of Euclidean distances is used as an alternative methodology for comparison of the identity vectors signatures. Also, experiments were carried out in...

Version évolutive de l’outil opérationnel de numérisation et d’analyse semi-automatique d’images de phytoplancton, utilisant le matériel FlowCAM et le logiciel ZooPhytoImage. Nouvelles perspectives ArchiMer
Wacquet, Guillaume; Grosjean, Philippe; Colas, Florent; Hamad, Denis; Artigas, Luis Felipe.
The coupled system FlowCAM/ZooPhytoImage has become a real operational tool in 2014. However, to be fully adapted to the observations of phytoplankton performed in the context of the REPHY observation network and in order to better respond to present and future requests concerning the evaluation of quality of coastal and marine waters within the European requirements, such as the WFD and MSFD, new functionalities must be integrated into existing tools. Therefore, different axis of development have been proposed by UMONS and Ifremer to adapt both the digitization device and the Zoo/PhytoImage software to the constraints defined by the REPHY. First, version 5 of Zoo/PhytoImage contains recent innovations such as the development of routines to automatically...

Temporal and spatial changes of seagrass meadows in a Mediterranean coastal lagoon ArchiMer
Agostini, S; Marchand, B; Pergent, G.
Aerial photographs and in situ data of the Urbinu Lagoon (one of the largest and deepest ponds in Corsica, Mediterranean Sea) permit the establishment of a cartography of its aquatic benthic assemblages and types of sea-beds. It was possible to distinguish in the photographs submerged structures such as: sand, pebbles, mud and seagrass meadows. Seagrass beds were the predominant vegetation type in this lagoon (comprising 14-29% of the total area depending on the year studied), and their distribution was incorporated into a geographical information database, and then compared with historical data. Temporal and spatial change in seagrass meadows was assessed between 1990 and 1997. Change in total extent was evaluated through a map to map comparison of data...

The circlet transform: A robust tool for detecting features with circular shapes ArchiMer
Chauris, H.; Karoui, Imen; Garreau, Pierre; Wackernagel, H.; Craneguy, Philippe; Bertino, L..
We present a novel method for detecting circles on digital images. This transform is called the circlet transform and can be seen as an extension of classical 1D wavelets to 2D; each basic element is a circle convolved by a 1D oscillating function. In comparison with other circle-detector methods, mainly the Hough transform, the circlet transform takes into account the finite frequency aspect of the data; a circular shape is not restricted to a circle but has a certain width. The transform operates directly on image gradient and does not need further binary segmentation. The implementation is efficient as it consists of a few fast Fourier transforms. The circlet transform is coupled with a soft-thresholding process and applied to a series of real images...

Dynamique sédimentaire multiclasse : de l’étude des processus à la modélisation en Manche ArchiMer
Blanpain, Olivier.
The purpose of this work is the implementation of a sediment transport model in the English Channel. The design of such a model requires the identification of the physical processes, their modelling and their in-situ validation. Because of the sedimentary particularities of the study area, modelling of the mechanical behaviour of a non uniform mixture of sediments and particularly of the fine grains within a coarse matrix is required. This study focused on the characterization of the relevant processes by acquisition of experimental and in-situ data. Data acquired in hydro-sedimentary conditions comparable to those found in the English Channel are scarce. A new instrument and image processing technique were specifically conceived and implemented in-situ to...

Assessing the Accuracy of High Resolution Digital Surface Models Computed by PhotoScan((R)) and MicMac((R)) in Sub-Optimal Survey Conditions ArchiMer
Jaud, Marion; Passot, Sophie; Le Bivic, Rejanne; Delacourt, Christophe; Grandjean, Philippe; Le Dantec, Nicolas.
For monitoring purposes and in the context of geomorphological research, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) appear to be a promising solution to provide multi-temporal Digital Surface Models (DSMs) and orthophotographs. There are a variety of photogrammetric software tools available for UAV-based data. The objective of this study is to investigate the level of accuracy that can be achieved using two of these software tools: Agisoft PhotoScan((R)) Pro and an open-source alternative, IGN((c)) MicMac((R)), in sub-optimal survey conditions (rugged terrain, with a large variety of morphological features covering a range of roughness sizes, poor GPS reception). Statistical Descriptors of Ocean Regimes From the Geometric Regularity of SST Observations ArchiMer
Ba, Sileye O.; Autret, Emmanuelle; Chapron, Bertrand; Fablet, Ronan.
In this letter, we evaluate to which extent the activity of ocean fronts can be retrieved from the geometric regularity of ocean tracer observations. Applied to sea surface temperature (SST), we propose a method for the characterization of this geometric regularity from curvature-based statistics along temperature level lines in front regions. To assess the effectiveness of the proposed descriptors, we used six years (from 2003 to 2008) of daily SST observations of the regions of Agulhas in the South of Africa and of Malvinas off the southern Brazilian coast. These experiments stress the relevance of geometric regularity features of tracer observation at ocean surface to characterize seasonal variations in ocean regimes.

Reproductive dynamics of swordfish (Xiphias gladius) in the southwestern Indian Ocean (Reunion Island). Part 2: fecundity and spawning pattern ArchiMer
Poisson, Francois; Fauvel, Christian.
Batch fecundity and relative fecundity of swordfish (Xiphias gladius) in the southwestern Indian Ocean were estimated from seven gravid swordfish females (size range 127-225 cm lower jaw-to-fork length, LJFL) with unovulated, hydrated oocytes collected onboard Reunion-based (France) longline swordfish fishing vessels between December 1999 to January 2001. To investigate the spawning pattern of swordfish, we used data collected through a combination of two at sea sampling regimes. A total of 17 007 geo-located size data of swordfish were recorded during 8 years (1993-2001) and a total of 1727 (size range 75-289 cm, LJFL) swordfish gonads (1107 females and 620 males) were sampled from May 1998 to January 2001. The estimated batch fecundity ranged from 995...

Directional short wind wave spectra derived from the sea surface photography ArchiMer
Yurovskaya, M. V.; Dulov, V. A.; Chapron, Bertrand; Kudryavtsev, V. N..
New field measurements of 2-D wave number short wind wave spectra in the wavelength range from few millimeters to few decimeters are reported and discussed. The measurement method is based on stereophotography and image brightness contrast processing. As found, the spectra of decimeter waves are almost isotropic and weakly dependent on the wind speed. Both directional anisotropy and wind sensitivity rapidly increase at wave numbers larger than 100 rad/m. These aspects are consistent with other previously reported optical and radar data. Following these new in situ measurements, a revision of a semiempirical model of short wind wave spectrum is suggested. This revised model can readily be implemented in other studies (radar scattering, air-sea interaction...

Observations dans les zones peu accessibles de l'environnement bathyal (biologie et geologie) grace a l'usage des soucoupes plongeantes ArchiMer
Roux, M.
On the bathyal slope for continental margins, steep and rocky substrates punctuated with cliffs and collapsing zones are frequently found. As survey and sampling with the classical technics from the sea surface is practically impossible in such an environment, in situ exploration with a submersible allows significant advances in ecology, with implications in paleoenvironment reconstruction. Mixing of material from shallow-water and deep-sea origins into bathyal sedimentation suggests that the so-called "fossil assemblages of outer platform" were frequently misinterpreted. Dense populations of animals closely related to fossil groups which were only considered as relict of the Past ("living fossils") and previously interpreted as shallow-water inhabitants...

Automating the characterisation of beach microplastics through the application of image analyses ArchiMer
Gauci, Adam; Deidun, Alan; Montebello, John; Abela, John; Galgani, Francois.
Four sandy beaches on the island of Malta in the Central Mediterranean were regularly sampled for Large MicroPlastic (LMP) particles having a diameter between 1 mm and 5 mm, at stations located at the waterline and 10 m inshore. The 10975 extracted LMP particles were characterised (dimensions, surface roughness, colour) through unaided visual observation, microscopic analyses, and an algorithm developed within the current study. Two-thirds of the isolated particles were smooth and the majority of these belonged to the grey-white colour category, with a low degree of opaqueness and discolouration, and a high degree of transparency, suggesting that these were dominated by low-density polyethylene LMPs. Conflicting evidence concerning the relative residence...
