This article characterized the forest fragments of Una River hydrographic basin, affluent of the Paraíba do Sul River. Results showed that the average mean size of all fragments is 9.06 ha and that the correlation to the circular shape is 0.68 and the mean nucleus area of fragments considering a border effect of 60m is 5.86 ha. The mean distance among them is 245m. These parameters indicate that this basin has elongated fragments, with high border effect and may be in risk of biodiversity erosion. The image showing the different size classes of fragments allowed spatial observation of critical areas of the basin in ecological sustainability risk. The computing tools proved to be useful and easy to use as long as a previous georeferenced data basis is... |

In this project "space-temporary Analysis of the landscape in the basin Dos Afonsos" was analyzed the patterns of change of use of the soils and the fragmentation of the wood, located in the basin Dos Afonsos, and inside the limits of the Redençao da Serra district that belongs to the Região do Vale do Paraíba-SP state. For it a was carried out an multitemporal analyzed on an area approximated of 6802,59 of hectares, using for that program SPRING, for the image of Landsat processing of the followings years 1984, 1994, 2005 and the images of CBERS of the 2005 years The analysis of detection of changes was made for the followings classes: Lake - Lagoon, Macrophytes, Wood, Grass, degraded Grass, implanted Grass, Burned, reforests and Bare soils. Concluding... |

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to process digital images to investigate the possibility of broilers body weight estimation based on the dynamic model. For this experiment, 2440 images were recorded by a top-view camera from 30 birds. An ellipse fitting algorithm was applied to localize chickens within the pen, by using a generalized Hough transform. Chickens’ head and tail were removed efficiently using the Chan-Vese method. After that, using image processing, six body measures were calculated. Next, they were used to design a Transform Function (TF) model with weight measurements as output. Second-order dynamic models were used to predict the weight of life broiler chicken, without delay, stable and with the highest R2 were predominantly... |

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to develop a software based on image processing and computer vision techniques for monitoring the feeding/collective behavior of broilers (Cobb) and validate it based on the results obtained from the visual analysis of an expert. The visual analysis was performed based on the observation and quantification of behaviors in the interval of 10 min at each hour of the day, in the period of 24 hours, totaling 1728 frames/day, for males and females. The software was developed using the Hoshen-Kopelman algorithm, for labeling clusters, which would basically be the grouping of similar pixels. This software is written in the 1999 standard of the C language. After this stage of programming, the Hoshen-Kopelman algorithm... |

In this paper a new methodology to recognize radk>larians is presented. This system is invariant to position, rotation and scale by using identity vectors signatures (Is) obtained for both the target and the problem image. In this application, / is obtained by means of a simplification of the main features of the original image in addition of the properties of the Fourier transform. Identity vectors signatures are compared using nonlinear correlation. This new methodology recognizes objects in a more simple way. It has a low computational cost of approximately 0.02 s per image. In addition, the statistics of Euclidean distances is used as an alternative methodology for comparison of the identity vectors signatures. Also, experiments were carried out in... |

The coupled system FlowCAM/ZooPhytoImage has become a real operational tool in 2014. However, to be fully adapted to the observations of phytoplankton performed in the context of the REPHY observation network and in order to better respond to present and future requests concerning the evaluation of quality of coastal and marine waters within the European requirements, such as the WFD and MSFD, new functionalities must be integrated into existing tools. Therefore, different axis of development have been proposed by UMONS and Ifremer to adapt both the digitization device and the Zoo/PhytoImage software to the constraints defined by the REPHY. First, version 5 of Zoo/PhytoImage contains recent innovations such as the development of routines to automatically... |

For monitoring purposes and in the context of geomorphological research, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) appear to be a promising solution to provide multi-temporal Digital Surface Models (DSMs) and orthophotographs. There are a variety of photogrammetric software tools available for UAV-based data. The objective of this study is to investigate the level of accuracy that can be achieved using two of these software tools: Agisoft PhotoScan((R)) Pro and an open-source alternative, IGN((c)) MicMac((R)), in sub-optimal survey conditions (rugged terrain, with a large variety of morphological features covering a range of roughness sizes, poor GPS reception). A set of UAV images has been taken by a hexacopter drone above the Riviere des Remparts, a river on... |

Four sandy beaches on the island of Malta in the Central Mediterranean were regularly sampled for Large MicroPlastic (LMP) particles having a diameter between 1 mm and 5 mm, at stations located at the waterline and 10 m inshore. The 10975 extracted LMP particles were characterised (dimensions, surface roughness, colour) through unaided visual observation, microscopic analyses, and an algorithm developed within the current study. Two-thirds of the isolated particles were smooth and the majority of these belonged to the grey-white colour category, with a low degree of opaqueness and discolouration, and a high degree of transparency, suggesting that these were dominated by low-density polyethylene LMPs. Conflicting evidence concerning the relative residence... |
