An index to all names of Odonata mentioned in publications of Maurits Anne Lieftinck (19041985) is provided. Lieftinck mainly published on the Odonata faunas of the Indo-Australian and Palaearctic regions. He revised many genera, described over 600 species and also examined hundreds of primary types of previously described species. He included with his descriptions and revisions accurate line illustrations and carefully composed lists of synonymies and references. The index to his works is therefore a key to nearly the full literature of Indo-Australian Odonata, as well as to valuable museum collections of, especially Indo-Australian, Odonata. |

Introduction: The food environment has been associated with food choices and obesity however tools to measure the food environment in middle-income countries are yet unavailable. Objectives: To propose two indexes to evaluate the food environment: Healthy Meal-Restaurant Index (HM-RI) and Healthy Retail Food Store Index (HRSI). Methods: All restaurants and retail food stores located in 52 census tracts across 13 districts of São Paulo city were audited. ANOVA analyses were performed according to SES and store types. Results: In total, 472 restaurants and 313 retail food stores were found. Mean HM-RI score was 2.66 (Standard deviation - SD=0.96), 50.2% of stores scored up to 2. Higher mean scores were found in high SES areas (p<0.001) and among full... |

The academic literature makes evident that the main immaterial contribution of the LEADER approach (LA) consists in the promotion of social capital in rural areas. Therefore the insertion of LA in the framework of Rural Development Programmes (RDPs) should be considered as a powerful opportunity to promote rural development initiatives by means of a bottom-up methodology, much more focused on social relationships among local actors. These aspects open new opportunities also in terms of evaluations of RDPs and of LA, in the context of the already established Common Monitoring and Evaluation Framework (CMEF). The objective of this paper is to present a methodology for the definition of the Relative Index of Social Capital Promotion (RISCP) to be used in the... |

It was aimed to verify the effect of the presence of trees and their heights in silvipastoral system on the intake behavior of Nellore heifers in the summer. Ten heifers for the following systems were used: system without shade, silvipastoral system with 8-meter and 18-meter trees. The data were collected in three days during 12 hours, subdivided in morning (7:15 a.m. to 1. p.m.) and afternoon (1:15 p.m. to 7 p.m.). It was evaluated the times and frequency of grazing, rumination, idle and the percentage of time that the animals remained in the shade; black globe-humidity index, whose average and minimum values (86 and 82) were equal for 8-meter tree system and 18-meter tree system; however they were lower when compared to the without shade system (89 and... |

The aim of this work was to verify if the presence of trees and its height in formed silvipastoral systems with eucalyptus planted in rank can modify the microclimate and improve the environment for bovine raising during the day in summer. It was evaluated the microclimate of the environment in formed silvipastoral systems in rank of eucalyptus with 8 m, 18 m and 28 meters of height, compared to a system no shade in the summer. The experimental design was a split plot with six hour time in sub parcels. The systems are made up of parcels and the months as block in four replications and the interaction hour × system. The air temperature, black globe temperature, relative humidity and wind speed were observed to create the following indexes for thermal... |

Combined selection for grain yield, cooking and nutritional quality is important in the improvement of the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L). The objectives of this study therefore were to evaluate the genetic variability of the common bean lines as to grain yield, cooking time and the minerals concentration in the grains, to study the linear association between these characteristics and use the <img src="/img/revistas/rca/v44n4/a25simb.jpg" width="19" height="16"> index to select those advanced lines which are superior in most of these characteristics. To do this, 16 common bean lines were evaluated in two growing seasons. The data were subjected to variance analysis and the Pearson correlation, and the <img... |

This study evaluated the microclimate in a system without shade (WS) and in a silvopastoral system (SP) with eucalyptus during summer and winter, by measuring the air temperature (Ta), black globe temperature (Tg), relative humidity (RH), wind speed (Ws), every 2 hours for 24 hours between rows, shade (SP) and no shade effect (WS). It was employed the randomized blocks design (months), in the plots (systems), subplots (hours) and sub-subplots (seasons). Except for Ta and RH, the Tg (24.73, 26.41ºC), Ws (3.16, 4.57 m s-1), Black globe-humidity index (BGHI) (71.83, 73.84), Thermal load index (TLI) (74.53, 76.11) and Radiant thermal load (RTL) (526.46, 595.80 W m-2), respectively for SP and WS, were higher in WS. Ta, RH and Ws had a quadratic effect of hour.... |

Early identification of patients who need hospitalization or patients who should be discharged would be helpful for the management of acute asthma in the emergency room. The objective of the present study was to examine the clinical and pulmonary functional measures used during the first hour of assessment of acute asthma in the emergency room in order to predict the outcome. We evaluated 88 patients. The inclusion criteria were age between 12 and 55 years, forced expiratory volume in the first second below 50% of predicted value, and no history of chronic disease or pregnancy. After baseline evaluation, all patients were treated with 2.5 mg albuterol delivered by nebulization every 20 min in the first hour and 60 mg of intravenous methylprednisolone.... |
