Eucalypt Growth Submitted to Management of Urochloa spp. Planta Daninha
FERREIRA,G.L.; SARAIVA,D.T.; QUEIROZ,G.P.; SILVA,D.V.; PEREIRA,G.A.M.; FERREIRA,L.R.; OLIVEIRA NETO,S.N.; MATTIELLO,E.M..
The objective of this work was to evaluate the initial growth and the physiological characteristics of eucalypt submitted to different managements of signalgrass. The experiment was conducted in a protected environment, using a randomized blocks design with five repetitions. The treatments were arranged in a (5 x 2) + 1 factorial design, and the first factor corresponded to the types of weed management (no control; chemical control keeping the signalgrass shoot on the soil; chemical control with removal of the signalgrass shoot; mechanical control keeping the signalgrass shoot on the soil, and mechanical control with removal of the signalgrass shoot); the second factor corresponded to the two weeds species (U. brizantha and U. decumbens) and a control...

Germination and tolerance of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) cultivars to water stress AGRIAMBI
Paiva,Emanoela P. de; Sá,Francisco V. da S.; Torres,Salvador B.; Brito,Marcos E. B.; Moreira,Romulo C. L.; Silva,Luderlândio de A..
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the tolerance of cowpea cultivars to water stress, during seed germination and seedling establishment. For this, a completely randomized experimental design was used in a factorial scheme consisting of nine cultivars of cowpea (BRS Guariba, BRS Potengi, BRS Itaim, BRS 17 Gurguéia, BRS Aracê, Paulistinha, Maratanã, Costela-de-Vaca and Canapu-Branco) and two levels of osmotic potential induced by PEG 6000 (0.0 MPa (control) and -0.4 MPa) in four replicates of 50 seeds. The variables analysed were germination, germination first count, root and shoot lengths, and dry matter accumulation of shoots and roots. The dissimilarity between the genotypes was also determined by Euclidean distance. Germination and...

ESTABLISHMENT OF YOUNG “DWARF GREEN” COCONUT PLANTS IN SOIL AFFECTED BY SALTS AND UNDER WATER DEFICIT Rev. Bras. Frutic.
SILVA,ALEXANDRE REUBER ALMEIDA DA; BEZERRA,FRANCISCO MARCUS LIMA; LACERDA,CLAUDIVAN FEITOSA DE; ARAÚJO,MARIA EMÍLIA BEZERRA DE; LIMA,RONNEY MENDES MAGALHÃES DE; SOUZA,CARLOS HENRIQUE CARVALHO.
ABSTRACT The aim was to analyze the establishment of young “Green Dwarf” coconut plants in soils affected by salts and under water stress, by evaluating leaf area, biomass production and allocation. In the experiment, conducted in protected environment in Fortaleza, CE, in statistical design of randomized blocks in a split plot arrangement, the effects of different water deficit levels (plots) were evaluated, by imposing different percentages of replacement of water losses by potential crop evapotranspiration - ETpc (20, 40, 60, 80 and 100%), associated with subplots consisting of increasing soil salinity levels (1.72, 6.25, 25.80 and 40.70 dS m-1) provided by soil collected at different parts of the Morada Nova Irrigated Perimeter - PIMN. Leaf area and...

Soil water dynamics and litter production in eucalypt and native vegetation in southeastern Brazil Scientia Agricola
Silva,Paulo Henrique Muller da; Poggiani,Fabio; Lima,Walter de Paula; Libardi,Paulo Leonel.
High productivity of eucalypt plantations is the result of advances in research that have led to gradual improvements in intensive silvicultural technology. High productivity notwithstanding, eucalypt plantations remain the focus of environmental concerns. Our study aimed to compare the soil water regime, litter fall and nutrients dynamics either in a fragment of native forest or in an adjacent stand of growing eucalypt. We took field measurements during the first three years of eucalypt plantation in a sandy soil in the southeastern region of Brazil. Soil moisture and internal drainage were higher during the early stages of growth of the eucalypt stand, as compared with native vegetation. However, one and a half years after planting, available soil water...

Biochemical and physiological responses of sugarcane cultivars to soil water deficiencies Scientia Agricola
Queiroz,Rafaela Josemara Barbosa; Santos,Durvalina Maria Mathias dos; Ferraudo,Antonio Sergio; Carlin,Samira Domingues; Silva,Marcelo de Almeida.
For sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) crops, the effects of an environmental stress, especially water deficiency, may cause severe productivity reduction, inferring negatively in the sugarcane industry. The tolerance of two sugarcane cultivars to a lack of water was made by analyzing the levels of the osmoprotectors, trehalose and free proline, and the biometrical variables of their initial growth. Biochemical and physiological responses of the cultivars, when subjected to water stress, were assayed to determine how these plants tolerate drought. The study was conducted in an acclimatized greenhouse (29.7 ± 4.3ºC and 75.0 ± 10.1% relative humidity) during 100 days and was divided into random blocks using a factorial 2 × 3 × 2 design (sugarcane cultivars × water...
