A population survey of the giant conifer aphid Cinara spp. was carried out in two areas of Pinus elliottii using yellow pan traps, during two years, from July 1997 to June 1999. During the collection period, the predominant species was Cinara pinivora (Wilson, 1919), representing 99% of the collected species. A few specimens of Cinara maritimae (Dufour, 1833) and only one winged female of Cinara fresai Blanchard, 1939 were collected. The population of C. pinivora was statistically higher in the area with 4.5 year-old trees than in the 1.5 year-old ones. The highest population peaks were registered in July 1997 and in August 1998. An unexpected high number of winged parthenogenetic females was collected in December 1998. C. fresai Blanchard, 1939 is... |

This research was carried out in order to compare the occurrence of insects in two maté cultivation systems, native and high tree density. It was performed from August/2000 to September/2001, in a private property in São Mateus do Sul county, in Paraná State, Brazil. Visual inspections of trees and light traps were used to evaluate insect populations in both areas. For Hedypathes betulinus (Klug) (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae), only six adults were observed in the dense area. Based on presence of sawdust at the basis of the trunk, it was obtained that the number of attacked trees did not surpass 11% in either area. For Gyropsylla spegazziniana (Lizer y Trelles) (Hemiptera, Psyllidae), the number of galls per tree was counted and it was observed that the... |

Eight localities were selected as representative sites to survey the entomofauna of Paraná State, Brazil: 1) Antonina (Sapitanduva); 2) Sao José dos Pinhais (Serra do Mar); 3) Colombo (Embrapa); 4) Ponta Grossa (Vila Velha); 5) Telêmaco Borba (Reserva Biológica Klabin); 6) Jundiaí do Sul (Fazenda Monte Verde); 7) Guarapuava (Santa Clara) and 8) Fênix (Reserva de Vila Rica). Floristic and meteorological conditions in these sites were registered and compared. One Malaise and one light trap were installed in each site. The insects were collected during two years, from August 1986 to July 1988. Only the material obtained during the first year has been sorted at insect order level and analyzed. The quantitative faunistic data were transformed in percentages and... |

Two Malaise traps (TOWNES 1972 model) were installed on an island (the "Ilha do Mel") in the Bay of Paranaguá, from September, 1988 to August, 1989. at two sites denominated "Fortaleza" and "Praia Grande", for collection of insects. Apart from collection of insects (Fortaleza: 62.924 individuals; Praia Grande: 38.868 individuais), graphical analysis were limited to those Orders wich occurred concomitantly at the two collection points in ali months: Collembola. Hemiptera. Homoptera. Coleoptera. Lepidoptera. Diptera and Hymenoptera. It was concluded that the Malaise trap is selective for Diptera. Hymenoptera and Lepidoptera. and proved to be efficient in measuring abundance, in obtaining information regarding the seasonal variation of insects, and in... |
