The mechanisms to obtain and store skin toxins in frogs in of the family Dendrobatidae are not completely understood. In order to contribute to understand how toxins are stored, we provide a histological description of the cutaneous glands of the species Phyllobates bicolor. The skin of two adult frogs was examined through three histological staining techniques (hematoxilin-eosin, PAS and Masson Trichrome) using conventional optic microscopy. The skin of Phyllobates bicolor contains two types of exocrine glands: mucous and serous, which empty their products to the epidermal surface through an intra-epithelial duct that leads to a stoma. The mucous and serous glands and the intercalated ducts are surrounded by a discontinuous sheath of myoepithelial cells,... |

(Morphology and anatomy of the developing fruit of Maclura tinctoria, Moraceae). Maclura tinctoria (L.) D. Don ex Steudel was selected for the present study due of its economic and medicinal importance. The purpose of this investigation is to present a detailed description of the fruit development, specially by: (a) defining the fruit type presented by the species, and (b) characterizing the seed type of the species based upon the presence or not of mechanical tissue on the seed-coat. The fruit originates from the subglobose female inflorescence which consists of small unipistillate flowers with superior ovary, unilocular and uniovular apical placentation. The mature fruit is multiple, constituted of small drupes. The ovule is ana-campylotropous,... |

The ovule of Tabebuia pulcherrima is anatropous, unitegmic and tenuinucellate. The nucellus shows a trizonate structural organization. The integument is initiated by periclinal divisions in the dermal layer (zone I), around the base of the archesporium. Subsequently, cells derived from the subdermal layer (zone II) start to push the dermal cells, so that they shift toward the micropylar region. The archesporial cell differentiates directly into the megaspore mother cell, undergoes meiosis, and originates a linear tetrad of megaspores. The mature embryo sac mother cell is elongated, possess a conspicuous central nucleus, and a characteristic bipolar vacuome with fibrous-granulated content. The inner cell layers of the integument differentiate into an... |

ABSTRACT: Asian citrus psyllid, Diaphorina citri, is considered the most important citrus pest worldwide, as it transmits Huanglongbing – serious citrus disease. New efficient and sustainable strategies to control this pest have been investigated and the use of entomopathogenic fungi has become a promising alternative. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of adjuvants a) Tween 80 at 0.01 % (v/v); b) Silwet L77 at 0.025 % (v/v) and c) KBRAdj at 0.075 % (v/v) on adhesion, germination and pathogenicity of Isaria fumosorosea ESALQ-1296(5 × 106 conidia mL–1). Female adults of D. citri used in this experiment were sprayed on Citrus limonia seedlings. The sprayed insects were analyzed through scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to identify the... |
