RESUMEN: En el presente trabajo se estudia el proceso de adopción de tecnología de distribución y control de agua que las Comunidades de Regantes de la Región de Murcia han llevado a cabo desde el año 1975 hasta 2005. Se analiza el tiempo que transcurre desde que se constituye la Comunidad de Regantes hasta que toma la decisión de adoptar utilizando Análisis de Duración. Se identifican como aceleradores del proceso de adopción la posesión de un pozo de apoyo, el empleo de un sistema tarifario variable en función del consumo, los efectos de las políticas de subvenciones a las obras de modernización y mejora de los regadíos y las sequías. Analysis of the Adoption of Irrigation Technologies Under Uncertain Water Availability AgEcon

This paper analyses the adoption process of water-conserving irrigation technologies by a risk averse farmer in a context of uncertain water availability. Firstly, it is analytically shown that the increase in water efficiency that the new technology allows results in a decrease in the cost of the effective irrigation water applied, as well as in an increase in both effective water applied and crop production. It is also concluded that the optimal amount of irrigation water applied depends on individual risk preferences of the producer, on the variance and asymmetry of the cost of water applied, and on the elasticity of the marginal productivity of the effective water applied. Investment in irrigation technology: an application of real options analysis AgEcon

Investment in irrigation infrastructure and technologies, particularly those that reduce on-farm water use have become a major focus of government programs both at a State and Commonwealth level. Particular attention has been given to increasing the uptake of water “saving” technologies among irrigators. The design of programs capable of achieving government objectives at least cost requires an understanding of farm level investment decisions. In this context, the influence of uncertainty on decisions to invest in irrigation technology and infrastructure is examined.
