Nd isotope constraints on ocean circulation, paleoclimate, and continental drainage during the Jurassic breakup of Pangea ArchiMer
Dera, Guillaume; Prunier, Jonathan; Smith, Paul L.; Haggart, James W.; Popov, Evgeny; Guzhov, Alexander; Rogov, Mikhail; Delsate, Dominique; Thies, Detlev; Cuny, Gilles; Puceat, Emmanuelle; Charbonnier, Guillaume; Bayon, Germain.
The breakup of Pangea and onset of growth of the Pacific plate led to several paleoenvironmental feedbacks, which radically affected paleoclimate and ocean chemistry during the Jurassic. Overall, this period was characterized by intense volcanic degassing from large igneous provinces and circum-Panthalassan arcs, new oceanic circulation patterns, and changes in heat and humidity transports affecting continental weathering. Few studies, however, have attempted to unravel the global interactions linking these processes over the long-term. In this paper, we address this question by documenting the global changes in continental drainage and surface oceanic circulation for the whole Jurassic period. For this purpose, we present 53 new neodymium isotope values...

The relationships of Cuspicephalus scarfi Martill and Etches, 2013 and Normannognathus wellnhoferi Buffetaut et al., 1998 to other monofenestratan pterosaurs Naturalis
Witton, M.P.; O'Sullivan, M.; Martill, D.M..
The evolution of pterodactyloid pterosaurs occurred in a ‘modular’ fashion with ‘pterodactyloid’-type crania and cervical vertebrae evolving in pterodactyloid sister taxa – early monofenestratan pterosaurs – before later postcervical modifications marked the development of the true pterodactyloid condition. This means of evolution creates problems for distinguishing isolated pterodactyloid crania from those of non-pterodactyloid monofenestratans, and has led to uncertainty over the affinities of two Late Jurassic European pterosaurs known only from skulls, Cuspicephalus scarfi Martill and Etches, 2013 and Normannognathus wellnhoferi Buffetaut et al., 1998. Some aspects of their cranial anatomy suggest affinities to early pterodactyloids – specifically the...

Trautschold’s collections in the Vernadsky State Geological Museum of the Russian Academy of Science (Moscow, Russia) Naturalis
Starodubtseva, I.A..
Hermann (German) Trautschold (1817-1902) is an outstanding researcher of the Carboniferous, Jurassic and Cretaceous geology of central Russia. Three decades (1857-1888) he lived in Moscow and moved from tutor and lecturer of the German language to Professor of Geology of Peter’s Agricultural University. All these years Trautschold was unceasing in palaeontological and stratigraphical researches.

Uber den Jura der Halbinsel La Guajira (Kilumbien). OceanDocs
Geyer, O.F..

Permineralized conifer-like leaves from the Jurassic of Patagonia (Argentina) and its paleoenvironmental implications Anais da ABC (AABC)
FUEYO,GEORGINA M. DEL; GNAEDINGER,SILVIA C.; DIAZ,MAITEN A. LAFUENTE; CARRIZO,MARTÍN A..
Abstract Abstract: Anatomically preserved conifer-like leaves from the Middle Jurassic La Matilde Formation at the Barda Blanca locality in the Gran Bajo de San Julián area, southern Patagonia are described here. Leaves are assigned to conifers based on the following foliar features: thick-walled epidermal cells, a sclerenchymatic hypodermis, resin canals and transfusion tracheids associated with the vascular bundle. General mesophyll anatomy and inferred foliar morphology suggest a similarity to large, broad, linear-lanceolate, multi-veined conifer-like leaves. The general foliar habit indicates an affinity with the large, multi-veined leaves of the Araucariaceae; especially with those exhibited by the species of the Araucaria sections, Araucaria and...

Eggshell and Histology Provide Insight on the Life History of a Pterosaur with Two Functional Ovaries Anais da ABC (AABC)
WANG,XIAOLIN; KELLNER,ALEXANDER W. A.; CHENG,XIN; JIANG,SHUNXING; WANG,QIANG; SAYÃO,JULIANA M.; RODRIGUES,TAISSA; COSTA,FABIANA R.; LI,NING; MENG,XI; ZHOU,ZHONGHE.
The counterpart of a previously described non-pterodactyloid pterosaur with an egg revealed the presence of a second egg inside the body cavity of this gravid female. It clearly shows that pterosaurs had two functional oviducts and demonstrates that the reduction of one oviduct was not a prerequisite for developing powered flight, at least in this group. Compositional analysis of one egg suggests the lack of a hard external layer of calcium carbonate. Histological sections of one femur lack medullary bone and further demonstrate that this pterosaur reached reproductive maturity before skeletal maturity. This study shows that pterosaurs laid eggs even smaller than previously thought and had a reproductive strategy more similar to basal reptiles than to...

Mesozoic dinosaurs from Brazil and their biogeographic implications Anais da ABC (AABC)
Bittencourt,Jonathas S.; Langer,Max C..
The record of dinosaur body-fossils in the Brazilian Mesozoic is restricted to the Triassic of Rio Grande do Sul and Cretaceous of various parts of the country. This includes 21 named species, two of which were regarded as nomina dubia, and 19 consensually assigned to Dinosauria. Additional eight supraspecific taxa have been identified based on fragmentary specimens and numerous dinosaur footprints known in Brazil. In fact, most Brazilian specimens related to dinosaurs are composed of isolated teeth and vertebrae. Despite the increase of fieldwork during the last decade, there are still no dinosaur body-fossils of Jurassic age and the evidence of ornithischians in Brazil is very limited. Dinosaur faunas from this country are generally correlated with those...
