Diseases play an important role in rice production. In modern agriculture, application of hazardous chemicals is a common practice allover the world. But organic rice production system does not allow synthetic agro-chemicals due to its adverse effect on environment as well as human health. Thirty six fungal, twenty one viral, six bacterial and six nematode diseases have been recorded in rice. In Bangladesh, 31 rice diseases have been so far identified of which ten are considered as major. Sheath blight, blast, bakanae etc. are the major rice diseases in Bangladesh. Biologische landbouw wordt algemeen erkend als een voorloper om te groeien naar een duurzamere land- en tuinbouw. De ontwikkeling van de biologische sector in Vlaanderen wordt echter beperkt door een aantal operationele en institutionele inefficiënties waardoor de Vlaamse biologische landbouw niet het gewenste succes heeft. Om bepaalde problemen binnen de sector op te lossen en te zorgen voor een verdere toename van de productiecapaciteit is het essentieel om een goede afstemming van kennisopbouw, -uitwisseling en -toepassing na te streven. In Taiwan, most organic catering is vegetarian and affiliated with organic food stores. These offer diners organic meals to make themselves competitive to attract target markets, and provide related information to improve consumers’ knowledge of organic foods and hopefully increase their consumption. The aim of the paper is to present results from a review of successful mid-scale organic values-based chains, where characteristics of such chains and their strategies for growth are in focus. The work is part of an EU-project, Healthy Growth, where ten European countries participate. Results are based on reviewed research in each participating country and a general review of research on successful chains.
