Recovery of phytase produced by solid-state fermentation on citrus peel 52
Rodríguez-Fernández,Daniel Ernesto; Rodríguez-León,José Angel; Carvalho,Júlio Cesar de; Thomaz-Soccol,Vanete; Parada,José Luis; Soccol,Carlos Ricardo.
The extraction of phytase produced by solid-state fermentation of citrus peel was studied employing a multistage leaching process. It was observed that the extracts containing EDTA retained over 90% of phytase activity at room temperature after 24 h after the leaching. A fractional design 2² (with 4 replicates at the central point) was carried out for testing the pH and agitation as process independent factors. Only the interaction between the pH and agitation showed a significant influence. These factors were optimized with a central composite design. Agitation at 300 rpm and pH at 5.0 were the best conditions to extract the enzyme from solid matrix. The modeling of the process indicated that diffusivity of the enzyme in the solvent was the controlling...

Farming and soil urban occupation in the water quality of Jaboticabal and Cerradinho streams 64
Silveira,Géssica Aparecida; Saran,Luciana Maria; Melo,Wanderley José de; Alves,Lucia Maria Carareto.
ABSTRACT Since the end of the twentieth century, 100% of the urban sewage from the city of Jaboticabal has been collected by interceptors and routed to a treatment plant. Between 1999 and 2000, studies on the effect of this environmental care showed that it did not efficiently clean up the water from the two streams that run through the city and flow into an agricultural area. This paper focuses on assessing the influence of soil use on the water quality of surface waters from these two streams. The study was conducted 15 years after the implementation of sewage interceptors. The sampling dates were bimonthly at eight points (P1 to P8) in the Cerradinho and Jaboticabal streams, in Jaboticabal (São Paulo State, Brazil). P1 was located at the source of the...

Chemical changes in an oxisol treated with pyroligneous acid 64
Togoro,Aluísio Hideki; Silva,Juliana Aparecida dos Santos da; Cazetta,Jairo Osvaldo.
The use of pyroligneous acid (PA), a by-product of charcoal production, is an ancient practice applied in agriculture to control soil and plant pests and diseases. However, little is known about the chemical alterations that this product may cause on treated soil. Thus, the present work aimed to evaluate the effect of PA concentrations on soil ions movement and to verify possible soil chemical properties changes. Detachable columns were filled with Oxisol, submitted to application of 5 PA concentrations (0, 1, 2, 4, 8% v/v), followed by water infiltration in an amount corresponding to 1.5 times the soil total pore volume, and evaluated the soil of four depths (0-10, 10-20, 20-30, 30-40cm) and the leachate. The use of pyroligneous acid in concentrations up...

APPLICATION EFFECT OF DIFFERENT RATES OF WASTEWATER FROM GELATIN PRODUCTION IN THE CHEMICAL ATTRIBUTES OF THE SOIL 70
Silvano,Caroline; Freitas,Paulo S. L.; Rezende,Roberto; Mioto,Liliane S.; Dallcort,Rivanildo.
ABSTRACT The gelatin industry wastewater has nutrients in its composition, allowing its use in agriculture as an alternative to disposal and recycling of this residue. However, high application rates can cause the accumulation of elements such as sodium in the soil, and generate negative impacts on the environment. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the application of rates up to 600 m3ha-1 of gelatin industry wastewater in soil columns, on soil chemical attributes in five depths. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse, in PVC tube columns (0.20 m diameter) filled with distroferric Red Nitosol soil, of very clayey texture. The treatments consisted of increasing rates of wastewater equivalent to 0, 150, 300, 450 and 600 m3 ha-1, with a single...
