Themisto gaudichaudii, the most abundant and widely distributed hyperiid amphipod in Argentine shelf waters, provides a source of food for several species of economical value such as the anchovy, mackerel, hake, and squid. Predictive dry weight-length and volume-length regression were established in order to provide an indirect estimation of the individual body mass from a measurement of body length. Samples were collected in San Jorge Gulf and fixed with a 4 o/o formaldehyde solution. The possible effect of formaldehyde fixation on dry weight and volume is discussed. |

The study of larvae nutritional condition allows to assess the physiologic state that reflects the environmental situation they were exposed to. It represents a useful instrument to determine favourable nursery areas, provides tools for the management of a population subject to fishing and furnishes information to establish appropriate closed areas and periods. The material analyzed derived from three cruises carried out to assess Argentine anchovy Northern stock during the 2003, 2004 and 2006 reproductive peak (SW Atlantic Ocean, Argentine Sea). The objective of this work was to study the nutritional status of Argentine anchovy first feeding larvae caught in the coastal and mid-shelf of the Río de la Plata River maritime front in relation to the... |

Through the analysis of the morphological changes ocurring in the process of growth, it was possible to identify three stages (primary juvenile: 25-75 mm; secondary juvenile: 76-160 mm; and juvenile preadult: 161-250 mm)during the first year of the species life. Regression equations for the different relations studied: body weight/body lenght, body surface/body lenght, body surface/body weight, and metabolic rate/body lenght, have been calculated for each stage. The variation of the number of gill rakers, mean distance between adjacent rakers and mean values of gill rakers lenght in reference to body growth was studied, and the relation between filtering area and body length was established. |

A population of the brown alga Padina pavonica has been studied in the locality of Cap Zebib (North of Tunisia) between September 2000 and August 2001. Abiotic factors (temperature ,salinity , oxygen ) and biotic ones (weight, height, diameter, biomass, and fertility) were carried out . The results showed that temperature varied between 12°C (February) and 24.5 °C (July). Salinity has recorded a little variation during the year .Oxygen ranged between 4.4 mg/l( March) and 10mg/l (November).Padina pavonica changed monthly . The weight ranged between 0.39g (February) and 18.8 g (August) . Minimum and maximum height were recorded respectively in January (2.07 cm) and September (7.3 cm) . Diameter varied between 1.32 cm (December) and 8.9 cm (August) .... |

A research survey was carried out in the southeast of the San Cristóbal island of the Galápagos Province (Galápagos Islands, Ecuador), between the 6th and 23th of december 1994; a 9 637 km2 was covered, from ca., 100 m depth waters. The Simrad EK-500 (38 kHz) acoustic equipment was used on board the I/V Tohallí of the National Fisheries Institute. The catch was compounded of 98% of makarell (Scomber japonicus) and 2% of south sardine (Sadinops sagax). The estimated results for biological and acoustic parameters for S. sagax were: sex ratio (male and female): 36% y 64%; furcal length range: 21-32 cm; mean legth: 26,6 cm; mean weith: 0,254 kg; theoreticals target strength and weight target strength (TS, TSkg): -38,9 dB and -33,0 dB. Mictofid catches were not... |

An analysis of data from a Tunisian farm during the months of June to November of the year 2008 is presented. These data were broken down into two sets the first concern sampled fish while towing them to farm (wild set), the second set concern sampled specimen at the end of fattening process (fattening set). The wild group comprised specimens ranging from 90 to 276 cm fork length, and the fattened group included specimens from 105 to 310 сm. Juvenile proportion (Lf<130 сm) in fattened specimen (15.7%) was considerably smaller compared to the proportion in wild specimens (61,8%). The distribution of individual weights of slaughtered BFT shows the prevalence 31-50 kg specimen class (60.4%). The L-W relationships were determined for each of these sets.... |

Estimations were made on the basis of a subsample of 6,734 individuals of Merluccius hubbsi from the Argentine Sea south of 41°S. Length-weight relation potential regression parameters were a=0.00950863, 0.01093448 and 0.01096117b=2.90831652, 2.86558431 and 2.86583191 for males, females and total individuals, respectively. The Newton algorithm was used to minimize the residuals. Maturity ogives were estimated with the logistic model adjusted by no lineal minimum quadratic ordinates. Length at first maturity at 50 was 33.79 cm for males and 35.38 cm for females. Age at first maturity estimated with the same model adjusted to the time elapsed from birth to catching was 2.61 and 2.67 years for males and females, respectively. Good fitting in all regressions... |

An extensive area of the continental shelf -between 37°20' and 34°40'S - was reviewed through hidroacoustical methods in order to evaluate the anchovy biomass. Within the area of highest concentration, further data on anchovy abundance were recorded, and fish samples were taken. Large anchovy shoals were located at about 170 nm from Mar del Plata, mainly in zones with sharp changes in oceanographic conditions. The distribution of the species was not uniform, but "contagious", and the log-normal distribution provided the best fit for the echo-integrator recorded data. The biomass was estimated at 1,061,727 tons (Confidence limits in between 921,010 and 1,223,930 tons). Some parameters of the population were estimated, such as: lenght-weight relationship,... |

In our study length-weight relationship are presented for 213 Phycis phycis and 270 Phycis blennoides caught between September 2007 and August 2008 and collected from trawler fishing in the Gulf of Tunis. The lengthweight relationships and the condition factor were computed separately for sexes and for different seasons. The parameters of the length-weight relationship for the population as a whole are all well correlated (r2 > 0.92, p <0.001). The type of growth is isometric for P. phycis while it is majorant allometry for P. blennoides. The comparison of the regression of the weight according to the total length of males and females, of the two species, shows that the growth is therefore identical. The study of seasonal variations indicates that... |
