Reinoso, B..
The present work is about biometry study, population structure and habitat Penaeus vannamei, Boone shrimp cultivated in ponds 939 shrimps were analised from March-July 1991 at a shrimp farm located in Hebano-Manabí port. The analysis demostrated that a strong difference exists between the male and female shrimp product of morphological diformis in this species. Also, the calculated correlation coeficient values were always near the unit indicated for us that the relations between the different averages were very narrow. The proportion of the sexes showed a clear predominance of the females over the males. The proportions being 60%/40% respectively. Aside from this, this population distribution remained steady during the period of the investigation. The...

OceanDocs
Alvarez Colombo, G.L.; Viñas, M.D..
Themisto gaudichaudii, the most abundant and widely distributed hyperiid amphipod in Argentine shelf waters, provides a source of food for several species of economical value such as the anchovy, mackerel, hake, and squid. Predictive dry weight-length and volume-length regression were established in order to provide an indirect estimation of the individual body mass from a measurement of body length. Samples were collected in San Jorge Gulf and fixed with a 4 o/o formaldehyde solution. The possible effect of formaldehyde fixation on dry weight and volume is discussed.

Díaz, M.V.; Pájaro, M..
The study of larvae nutritional condition allows to assess the physiologic state that reflects the environmental situation they were exposed to. It represents a useful instrument to determine favourable nursery areas, provides tools for the management of a population subject to fishing and furnishes information to establish appropriate closed areas and periods. The material analyzed derived from three cruises carried out to assess Argentine anchovy Northern stock during the 2003, 2004 and 2006 reproductive peak (SW Atlantic Ocean, Argentine Sea). The objective of this work was to study the nutritional status of Argentine anchovy first feeding larvae caught in the coastal and mid-shelf of the Río de la Plata River maritime front in relation to the...

Zavatteri, A..
This paper deals with the age and growth parameters of the Southwest Atlantic beaked skate Dipturus chilensis, as well as with some reproductive features of the species. Samples of individuals inhabiting 34°-55°S and 52°- 69°W were analyzed. They were taken during surveys carried out by the National Institute for Fisheries Research and Development (INIDEP) research vessels, as well as by a landing sampling at Mar del Plata port. The fish age was determined by counting growth rings from thin sections of the vertebral centra of 414 fish ranging 24-110 cm (203 males) and 24-115 cm (211 females) total length. The vertebral sections were stained using cobalt hloride. Both average per cent error (APE=5.94) and precision (D=5.89) indexes suggested that the...

Through the analysis of the morphological changes ocurring in the process of growth, it was possible to identify three stages (primary juvenile: 25-75 mm; secondary juvenile: 76-160 mm; and juvenile preadult: 161-250 mm)during the first year of the species life. Regression equations for the different relations studied: body weight/body lenght, body surface/body lenght, body surface/body weight, and metabolic rate/body lenght, have been calculated for each stage. The variation of the number of gill rakers, mean distance between adjacent rakers and mean values of gill rakers lenght in reference to body growth was studied, and the relation between filtering area and body length was established.

Variaciones regionales, estacionales y anuales OceanDocs
de Ciechomski, J.D.; Sánchez, R.P.; Alespeiti, G.; Regidor, H..
The equation log W=a+bL (where W=dry weight in ug, and L=total length in mm)was used to describe the growth in weight of larval anchovy collected in two areas of the Argentine sea, sampled in different months and several years. Regression lines were compared by covariance analysis applied to two size groups, namely larvae less and over 10 mm total length, as an evident break in the slopes indicated the existence of a chenge of rythm in the trajectory of larval growth in length. Significant differences between the slopes of the growth lines were observed within the smaller size group. No regional or yearly differences could be established fo larvae larger than 10 mm.

OceanDocs
Hansen, J.E..
Two pelagic cruises were carried out by R/V"Cap.Oca Balda" in the spring of 1988 and the following summer. Anchovy samples were taken in order to increase the knowledge on the differences between two main stocks of the species, inhabiting the Argentine Sea from 35°S southwards, with distributional boundary situated at about 41°S. Length-weight relationships were statistically different among populations. Weight-at-length values calculated for the summer cruise were higher tha sprin estimates, and they were also higher within Northern individuals. The differences were not statistically significant between stocks, but there are reasons to believe that if ages 1 and 6 of both stocks had been represented those differences would have been increased. Mortality...

OceanDocs
Hansen, J.E..
Patagonian sprat is probably the only pelagic fish species having a considerable biomass within the Argentine Seasouth of 45ºS. There are two populations, the first inhabiting mainly the coastal region around Malvinas Islands and the other close to the coast off Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego Provinces, including the fuegian channels. Some results of two seasonal (autumn and spring) patagonian sprat assessment surveys carried out during 1996 are shown. The autumn cruise covered the area between 50° and 55°S, from the continental coast up to 60 m depth, whereas the spring survey extended upto 90 m depth including Le Maire Strait and part of the Beagle Channel. During both seasons, in waters ranging 6.2 - 8.8°C temperature, the species distributed very...

Bouriga, N.; Cherif, M.; Hajjej, Gh.; Guignard, J-P.; Faure, E.; Trabelsi, M..

Khemiri, S.; Gaamour, A..

Distribución, abundancia y algunos aspectos biológico-pesqueros OceanDocs
Hansen, J.E.; Gru, D.L.; Perrotta, R.G..
An extensive area of the continental shelf -between 37°20' and 34°40'S - was reviewed through hidroacoustical methods in order to evaluate the anchovy biomass. Within the area of highest concentration, further data on anchovy abundance were recorded, and fish samples were taken. Large anchovy shoals were located at about 170 nm from Mar del Plata, mainly in zones with sharp changes in oceanographic conditions. The distribution of the species was not uniform, but "contagious", and the log-normal distribution provided the best fit for the echo-integrator recorded data. The biomass was estimated at 1,061,727 tons (Confidence limits in between 921,010 and 1,223,930 tons). Some parameters of the population were estimated, such as: lenght-weight relationship,...

Length - weight relationship and condition factor of Phycis phycis (Linnaeus, 1766) and Phycis blennoides (Brünnich, 1768) [Actinopterygii, Gadiform, Phycidae] in the Gulf of Tunis OceanDocs
Romdhani, A.; Ktari, M. H.; Mahé, K..
In our study length-weight relationship are presented for 213 Phycis phycis and 270 Phycis blennoides caught between September 2007 and August 2008 and collected from trawler fishing in the Gulf of Tunis. The lengthweight relationships and the condition factor were computed separately for sexes and for different seasons. The parameters of the length-weight relationship for the population as a whole are all well correlated (r2 > 0.92, p <0.001). The type of growth is isometric for P. phycis while it is majorant allometry for P. blennoides. The comparison of the regression of the weight according to the total length of males and females, of the two species, shows that the growth is therefore identical. The study of seasonal variations indicates that...
