Growth parameters based on age assignation, length-weight relationship and mortality rates of castañeta Cheilodactylus bergi were studied. Samples came from landings at Mar del Plata Port(Buenos Aires province, Argentina) during 1989, and from a research cruise carried out in the Argentine-Uruguayan Common Fishing Zone(CFZ) during 1991. Castañeta is a longeval demersal species. The growth parameters of von Bertalanffy special model were: 1) Lý 31.95,34.69, 32,30; 2) K 040, 033, 039; and 3) t0 0.00, -0.16, 0.03 corresponding to males, females and all fish respectively. The rates of total mortality (Z) were 0.18, 0.16 and 0.17 for males, females and all fish, respectively. Because of the low rate of exploitation during the study, this values can be used as... |

In our study length-weight relationship are presented for 213 Phycis phycis and 270 Phycis blennoides caught between September 2007 and August 2008 and collected from trawler fishing in the Gulf of Tunis. The lengthweight relationships and the condition factor were computed separately for sexes and for different seasons. The parameters of the length-weight relationship for the population as a whole are all well correlated (r2 > 0.92, p <0.001). The type of growth is isometric for P. phycis while it is majorant allometry for P. blennoides. The comparison of the regression of the weight according to the total length of males and females, of the two species, shows that the growth is therefore identical. The study of seasonal variations indicates that... |

Estimations were made on the basis of a subsample of 6,734 individuals of Merluccius hubbsi from the Argentine Sea south of 41°S. Length-weight relation potential regression parameters were a=0.00950863, 0.01093448 and 0.01096117b=2.90831652, 2.86558431 and 2.86583191 for males, females and total individuals, respectively. The Newton algorithm was used to minimize the residuals. Maturity ogives were estimated with the logistic model adjusted by no lineal minimum quadratic ordinates. Length at first maturity at 50 was 33.79 cm for males and 35.38 cm for females. Age at first maturity estimated with the same model adjusted to the time elapsed from birth to catching was 2.61 and 2.67 years for males and females, respectively. Good fitting in all regressions... |

The study of larvae nutritional condition allows to assess the physiologic state that reflects the environmental situation they were exposed to. It represents a useful instrument to determine favourable nursery areas, provides tools for the management of a population subject to fishing and furnishes information to establish appropriate closed areas and periods. The material analyzed derived from three cruises carried out to assess Argentine anchovy Northern stock during the 2003, 2004 and 2006 reproductive peak (SW Atlantic Ocean, Argentine Sea). The objective of this work was to study the nutritional status of Argentine anchovy first feeding larvae caught in the coastal and mid-shelf of the Río de la Plata River maritime front in relation to the... |

The yellowtail kingfish, Seriola lalandi, Carangidae (Valenciennes, in Cuvier y Valenciennes, 1833) is a pelagic, schooling fish, with gregarious behaviour. It is a circumglobal species from tropical and temperate waters. Adult S. lalandi migrate to Argentine waters (SW Atlantic) during summer months (January-April). They have been reported from Argentine waters in depths of 20-36 m between 36°S and 38° and, as reported elsewhere in the world, are often associated with rocky reefs. Samples of S. lalandi were caught using trolling lines during daytime around rocky reefs at 35° 52'-35° 58'S and 54° 45'-54° 48'W, on February 15-22, 2002. Sixty-six adult S. lalandi were analyzed, with specimens measured (LT) and weighted (WT). The length-weight relationship... |

The document presents results from the pelagic acoustic research survey, executed at the East zone of the Galápagos Islands, between April and May 1995. A total of ca., 15 500 km² was covered. The following species were identified in the catch: mackarel (Scomber japonicus), south sardine (Sardinops sagax), mictophids (Lampanyctus spp.), and small specimens of giant squid (Dosidicus gigas). Mean legth and weight for mackarel and south sardine were 26,3 cm FL/0,251 kg and 18,6 cm TL/0,051 kg respectively. The estimated density for small pelagic fish of comercial interest (mackarel and sardine) was of 10,5 km². The estimated biomass for mackarel was ca., 125 000 t whereas for sardine was ca., 36 000 t. The current results coincide with those of March-April... |

Through the analysis of the morphological changes ocurring in the process of growth, it was possible to identify three stages (primary juvenile: 25-75 mm; secondary juvenile: 76-160 mm; and juvenile preadult: 161-250 mm)during the first year of the species life. Regression equations for the different relations studied: body weight/body lenght, body surface/body lenght, body surface/body weight, and metabolic rate/body lenght, have been calculated for each stage. The variation of the number of gill rakers, mean distance between adjacent rakers and mean values of gill rakers lenght in reference to body growth was studied, and the relation between filtering area and body length was established. |
