Leptolida (Cnidaria: Hydrozoa) collected during the CANCAP and Mauritania-II expeditions of the National Museum of Natural History, Leiden, The Netherlands [Anthoathecata, various families of Leptothecata and addenda] Naturalis
Vervoort, W..
Forty leptolid species are described from the north-eastern Atlantic (Macaronesian area and the coasts of Mauritania and Morocco) and additional data are given for 44 leptolids described in previous reports. Two new species of Hydractinia and one new species of Zygophylax are described. Zygophylax echinata Calder & Vervoort, 1998 has been synonymized with Zygophylax sagamiensis Hirohito, 1983. The geographical boundaries of several species have been extended amongst which some (Hydractinia multitentaculata Millard, 1975; Hydractinia marsupialia Millard, 1975, Hydrocorella africana Stechow, 1921) that were hitherto considered to be endemic to South African oceanic waters. Halecium sessile Norman, 1867, turned up in the CANCAP collections after the...

Taxonomic characters from the hydranths of live thecate hydroids: European Haleciidae (Cnidaria: Leptothecatae) Naturalis
Cornelius, P.F.S..
The hydranths of six species of hydroids of the family Haleciidae from NW Europe are described from life and compared. Notes are given on the hydranths of three other species, and general taxonomic comments on some others. Hydranth character-states are useful in defining and distinguishing Halecium species, but the characters may not be useful in routine identification by non-specialists. Halecium undulatum is recorded for the first time from Sweden, and from three localities in Norway whence there was just one previous record. Halecium halecinum may breed year-round in British waters.

Bibliography of Leptolida (non-Siphonophoran Hydrozoa, Cnidaria). Works published after 1910 Naturalis
Vervoort, W..
A bibliography is presented of works on non-siphonophoran hydroids (Leptolida) published since 1910, the preceding period being covered by M. Bedot's "Matériaux pour servir á l'histoire des Hydroïdes". As the scope of the present taxon (Leptolida) is wider than that studied by Bedot an additional list of Leptolid papers is also given, including a few papers that escaped Bedot's attention.

Atlantic Thyroscyphidae and Sertariidae (Hydrozoa, Cnidaria) collected during the CANCAP and Mauritania-II expeditions of the National Museum of Natural History, Leiden, The Netherlands CANCAP-project. Contributions, no. 120 Naturalis
Medel, M.D.; Vervoort, W..
Twenty-three species, subspecies or varieties of hydroids of the families Thyroscyphidae and Sertulariidae (Leptolida, Hydrozoa, Cnidaria) are described and figured, originating from north-eastern Atlantic localities visited during the CANCAP and Mauritania-II Expeditions of the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie (now Nationaal Natuurhistorisch Museum) in the years 1976-1988 and covering waters around Azores, Canary Islands, Madeira, Cape Verde Islands and the Atlantic off Morocco and Mauritania. Besides notes on the variability of the various species in the large material available, vertical and horizontal distributions are discussed. Observations on the considerable material of Sertularella ellisii (Deshayes & Milne-Edwards, 1836) indicate that...

The family Haleciidae (Cnidaria: Hydrozoa) from the Strait of Gibraltar and nearby areas Naturalis
Medel, M.D.; García, F.G.; Vervoort, W..
A faunistic study of the family Haleciidae from the Strait of Gibraltar and nearby areas has been made; seven species are described, figured and discussed. Information about the zoogeographical distribution, and conditions of substrates are contributed. A key to distinguish the species of this family from the seas of the Iberian Peninsula is presented, and the Iberian Haleciidae are compared with those from the Mediterranean and the British Isles.

Further notes on Leptolida (Hydrozoa: Cnidaria) from Canadian Pacific Waters Naturalis
Brinckmann-Voss, A.; Arai, M.N..
This paper includes new data on Anthoathecatae and Tiarannidae. Paulinum gen. nov., Paulinum lineatum spec. nov., and Euphysa vervoorti spec. nov. are described. A single specimen was assigned tentatively to the Trichydridae as incertae sedis gen., incertae sedis spec. nov. An additional four species (Calycopsis bigelowi, Merga reesi, Paragotoea bathybia and Modeeria rotunda) are recorded from Canadian Pacific and adjacent waters for the first time. The species Bythotiara depressa Naumov, 1960 is redescribed and its relationship to other Calycopsidae is discussed. Other data are briefly summarized to update the Anthomedusae portion of Arai & Brinckmann-Voss (1980:1).

Overzicht van de Nederlandse Leptolida (=Hydroida) (Cnidaria: Hydrozoa) Naturalis
Vervoort, W.; Faasse, M.A..
In this paper a review is presented of the Dutch leptolid (= hydroid) fauna (phylum Cnidaria, class Leptolida). The Dutch faunal boundary has been defined by Boschma (1927) and was based on the presence of lightvessels off the Dutch shores. Though the lightvessels have disappeared this formal faunal boundary has been maintained. A total of 146 species, belonging to 87 genera in 38 families, are shortly described and illustrated. 114 species can be considered truly indigenous Dutch species, of which the occurrence within the Dutch faunal boundaries is substantiated by material in collections or records in the faunistic literature. Of seven species either material or convincing records are available but their geographical distribution indicates that they do...

Nemertesia tropica spec. nov. from Indonesian waters near Bali. Description of the new species and a review of the genus Nemertesia Lamouroux, 1812 (Leptothecata, Hydrozoa, Cnidaria) Naturalis
Ramil, F.; Vervoort, W..
A new species of the leptolid family Plumulariidae, Nemertesia tropica spec. nov. is described. The various species of Nemertesia are listed and their synonymy and characters discussed. Allocation in Nemertesia of some species previously described in Plumularia by Fraser (1938-1948) necessitated the introduction of two new names, viz. Nemertesia californica nom. nov. for Plumularia mutabilis Fraser, 1948 and Nemertesia mexicana nom. nov. for Plumularia reversa Fraser, 1938.
